I think my TR4C and other tube gear will be with me as long as I live.

Yep! It may be my older ears, but I sure like to listen to the drakes and

To all, thanks for the help given me on the drakelist here. Garey's
suggestion to short the filters and listen to the calibrate signal on both
sidebands
did the trick. Shorting the filter got the rf flowing and listening to the
calibrate signal on both sidebands told me the 9 mhz signal

Good job congratulations... We all learn things by looking over each
others shoulders with these types of things

Terry,
Congrats man... Isn't it cool to be able to work on something like that, fix
it and enjoy it again!
Reminds me of when I was a Customer Engineer at IBM working on all that 50's
and 60' technology equipment day in day out... very rewarding and fun... Best
job I ever had.

Thanks Lee. It is fun to get them going again. This one was a basket case
when I got it with multiple problems. Someone was in it adjusting every can
the wrong way and it had numerous bad tubes in it. Anyway's, it is fun for a
old retired mechanical engineer to be able to save the radio
Terry,
I have the Drake C line and the Collins S line right next to a state of the
art Ten-Tec Orion II (one hell of a radio!) and in general (not contesting on a
crowded band etc) the OLD BOYS hear just about as well, and a pleasure to
operate...
Actually I think the Sherwood R4C hears as
You are right Lee. I sold my Orion because all I used were the Drakes. The
Orion was a nice radio
but not the pleasure to listen to and operate like the Drakes. I have had
Drake Twins in the shack since 1970 and you can't beat them.
