[dspace-tech] RE: java 17 and DSpace 6.3

2022-12-02 Thread Cameron, Jacob
Thanks Tim.

I did try running OpenJDK 8 but the handle server wouldn't run. I did look on
the listserve and some people mentioned you had to run OpenJDK 1.7 which isn't
available for windows. I guess we will need to rush to get to DSpace 7.

Hi Jake,

I would not recommend running DSpace 6.x on anything above JDK 8. This is
because the JDK itself underwent significant changes between JDK v8 and JDK
v11. It has also never been tested on JDK v11 or above...while some features
may work, we cannot guarantee everything will. (That said, if you want to try
it out and make sure everything works for you, you can make your own decision.
It's just not been tested by the DSpace Committers.)

DSpace 7 does support JDK v11 and JDK v17 but updating the codebase to fully
support later versions of JDK was non-trivial (it involved changing thousands
of lines of code).

There are free versions of JDK 8 available from OpenJDK, if Oracle is
attempting to charge you money. Oracle JDK and OpenJDK are essentially
identical (see https://www.baeldung.com/oracle-jdk-vs-openjdk)... and many
DSpace sites use OpenJDK as it is freely available.

[dspace-tech] Re: Can view PDFs in browser (DSpace 7.4), but can't download

2022-12-02 Thread 'Tim Donohue' via DSpace Technical Support
Hi,

A "FileNotFoundException" means that the file is completely missing from
your "assetstore" folder. So, in your error above, DSpace thinks one of
the bitstreams should be in this location
"/dspace/assetstore/25/26/12/25261257736478383774210749798254768435", but
it cannot find that bitstream. (Those assetstore directories and file
names will always appear as random looking numbers -- that's how DSpace
stores files internally)

Generally, this is a sign that your migration wasn't successful. Either
you missed some files when you copied the "assetstore" folder over from 4.x
to 7.x, or maybe the copy somehow failed (perhaps there was an internet
connection issue or similar which caused some files to not copy or get
corrupted).

Unfortunately, my best advice here would be to consider recopying over the
entire assestore from 4.x to 7.x... or, as you noted, you could re-upload
the files manually if there are not many.

[dspace-tech] Re: Self Registration does not support Caps lock

2022-12-02 Thread 'Tim Donohue' via DSpace Technical Support
Hi,

Thanks for reporting this! It appears that the regular expression we are
using to validate the email address is not accepting uppercase letters.
Not sure how this slipped by, but I've just created a bug ticket for it
here: https://github.com/DSpace/dspace-angular/issues/1983

I've also fixed it in this PR:
https://github.com/DSpace/dspace-angular/pull/1984. This fix should likely
be in 7.5 (due in Feb). In the meantime, you could update that Regex
manually in your codebase & rebuild/redeploy the User Interface if you need
it sooner.

Re: [dspace-tech] Deposit files 7.4 for a long time

2022-12-02 Thread Vicente Zapatero Martin
Hi.

I follow your instructions checking browser developer options this request
has opened for 2-3 minutes.

/server/api/workflow/workflowitems?projection=full

I checked tomcat access log and I haven't found nothing strange. In
dspace.log I analyzed the log when it took a long time and discovered that
the next error was with the mail server when sending. The test server
smtp.example.com was responding to ping. I have changed the mail server in
local.cfg to a dummy one on the test server.

I'm commenting on it in case it happens to someone else and it's something
that doesn't depend on dspace or us.

Many Thanks.
