How do you know that tomcat is using /dspace/webapps? Did you modify your
Tomcat configuration?
Yes, I changed the directory in /var/lib/tomcat5.5/conf/server.xml so
I don't have to copy everything across every time I update something.
No, if Tomcat

Hi Islam,
in order for the subscription emails to be send you got to run
[dspace]/bin/sub-daily
It is usually set up as a cron job, see:
[dspace-source]/dspace/docs/html/ch03.html#N10918

Hi Hamish,
blanks have been added between label and text in subscription email in
1.5.x. Attached is a patch which you can use on your 1.5.1 instance.
Hope that helps

Well, here's what I use to snapshot the database every night:
/usr/bin/pg_dump -Ft -b dspace | gzip -9 /var/lib/idea/db.tar.gz
Change the names and paths to suit your envorinment, of course. The
result should be suitable for loading with 'pg_restore'. It will

Hi Naveed,
no, the role hasn't changed that far. In 1.5.x the collection admin is
able to:
- edit the metadata of the collection (incl. logo upload)
- edit the template
- edit the submitters
- map items
- export the collection
Hope that helps

Hi all,
I made a couple changes to my Messages.properties file (to take care of the
???jsp.mydspace.request.export.community.??? button issue, amongst other
things) and did a rebuild of DSpace, but my changes aren't being recognized.
Since I'm using the default release of 1.5.1 and not the
We have noticed with our DSpace 1.5.1 instance that when we
permanently delete an item, it breaks the ability of Dspace to add items
to the browse indexes. A restart of tomcat fixes the issue, until you
delete another item which breaks it from working again. I know they kept

Would someone give me a completely lucid explanation between
index-init and index-update?
I want to add a new browse index to the existing indexes.
So, I add it to dspace.cfg -- ant update -- and then which one
of the above?
TIA,

It really depends on the level you edited you dspace.cfg at (sorry if
this seems confusing)...I'll give you a longwinded description of the
build process, then tell you the simplier way to get your index built.
The build process has two stages
1.) Maven build

The reindexing looked good and

You all should know that I am at fault for this one. I didn't read
the complete
documentation in the dspace.cfg. (You get excited to try a new
feature! I should
remember my best one line: RTFM?)
I owe someone from the Committers a dinner and a beer. Who wrote the
