Lucene (the search system used by DSpace) is 'stemming' the words

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stemming ). It indexes the stem of the
word (in this case propel) so that it can find similar words (engine
will find engines etc).

I think you’re correct here... ‘ant’ and ‘er’ are both common English stems,
and Lucene is probably just being clever by chopping them off when indexing and
