I am using Dspace 3.1 version – windows 2003 server os- with tomcat servlet
I would like to edit some metadata - data value to be displayed with new
“display string” with the data.
For that I have extracted the file ‘Messages.properties’ from
dspace/webapps/jspui/WEB-INF/lib/dspace-api-3.1.

perhaps would be better try to get the sources and edit them :-)

Thank you! It is working as you have said. I am wondering why it is working
from class folder overriding the .jar? What does that class folder do? does
it mean that I can do the same with any other classes/files in .jar files?

Hi,
yes we can (sounds like the president Obama) :-)
First, get from source code deployed in your webapp the original

Follow this step:

2)decompress it in an external fold

Hi folks
We're running DSpace 1.7.0 here now (fresh install, but we upgraded our

You'll need to use a program called native2ascii to convert your
properties files back to unencoded utf8. Alternatively, you could use a
gui tool such as TongueTied or Eclipse's property file editor to convert
the properties file into a text readable format for editing.
Hope this helps.

Hi Michael,
good to hear, that you solved it.
There is one caveat though with using the jspui overlay message

parts of the emails for workflow notifications or subscriptions will
still be pulled from the orginal Messages.prope

Hi
Try deploying your properties files straight to your dspace instance to
see if they are working correctly;
1. /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/dspace/jspui/webapps/jspui/WEB-INF/classes
(change the path to your unpacked dspace war path)
2. Restart tomcat
You could also check that the correct prope

Hi all,
if you want to customize the existing Messages.properties no matter what
language the files are placed under:
[dspace-source]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/resources
e.g.
[dspace-source]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/resources/Messages.properties
[dspace-source]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/m
It is better not to touch the source directly.
Assume you have only one Messages.properties,
place it in [your_dspace151_src]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/resources
If you have multiple properties files for different languages, place
them under different dirs under resources.

Hi all,
In 1.5, what process do I use to update Messages.properties?
Or do I need to copy changes manually from my source?
To be more precise:
You can copy it from [dspace-source]/dspace/config/ to [dspace]/config/.
But it is better to say 'ant init_configs' in
[dspace-source]/dspace/target/dspace-[version-no.]-build.dir/.
No other directories are to be touched, if You Web-server is configured
