Re: [DX-CHAT] [DX-NEWS] (Fwd) [GOLIST] KP5

2006-02-23 Thread jcowens
Or perhaps he was someone who made a previous, and serious request to operate
from KP5 and was refused. Then he hears that someone else is there with some
kind of permission and complains about why he waas refused and then someone
else allowed. FW then decides it doesn't want to get sued for this apparent
discrimination and then makes the active op stop making radio contacts from
KP5. I am sure there is much more to the story than we all know. Don't be too
quick to critisize his/their motives unless you do in fact know the complete
story. It might be quite different than it appears. I think most of us applaude
the 2 men who managed to activate KP5, and I am one of them. I needed that
country for DXCC and did manage to make a contact. I hope it gets confirmed and
gets my country needed list down to 3. I have cards from 70 that have not been
accepted by DXCC for similar problems, and they will probably never get
confirmed. Given the current political and governmental situation in that
country, I will probably go to my grave without a confirmation of 7O.

I'd call him a disgruntled DXpeditioner...maybe he was
thinking or had plans in place of going to KP5 and these guys
just were faster to get the thing going.

I remember a couple of DXP would be spoilers...like a DXP
that announced it plans to go Comoros and just a week before
some others jumped and did a minor expedition..it turned out
the Comoros team was awesome and they are still the best DXP
qso wise. The thing has happened a number of times...

What would motivate someone to do this kind of thing?
How maladjusted can some people be?
Maybe this is one of the people who deliberately QRM
dxpeditions??
Maybe it's the sort of person who writes obscenities on walls,
who vandalises parked cars?
Go get therapy whoever you are.

Interesting story posted for DailyDX subscribers regarding
the recent KP5 operation. Turns out the operation was cut
short due to another ham complaining to the FWS and to his
  congressman demanding it be stopped.

I wonder who this might be? Perhaps he will step forward
and give his side of the story and his reasons for doing so?
I'd say keeping silent would damn him in the minds of most
  hams.

Sorry, unless you are a subscriber Bernie has prohibited

Don said: ""You are not correct, the radios

Why am I not correct? The manufacturers donated(or loaned if
you prefer) tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment. In return the
equipment manufacturers can rightfully expect credit and the maximum exposure of
their products.

Don Said: ""Each member of the team put up $20K
or so each. Each member had to take 6 weeks or more out his
life.""
As I have said they are to be commended for what they have
accomplished and endured. They are a very special group of individuals who
deserve all the accolades they have been, and will continue to,
receive.

Don said: ""It is well over half of the expended
$.""
I did not make a definite statement. I said "most likely". I
based my comment on all the financial info that has been made public so
far.

Don said: ""This team put out over 87,000 QSOs,
the 5 most DXPedtion EVER. It likely will go down as the costliest
ever.""
I guess we have a new syndrome here which I will call the Bode
Miller syndrome. A lot of time, money, and resources were spent on Bode Miller
and he didn't finish in the top 3. 3YØX was ""the costliest
ever"" and didn't finish in the top 3. Could I have done better, NO. Do I
have a right to point out what I perceived, from my own experiences,to
have been the shortcomings, YES.

Lastly Don said: ""They don't owe you anything
Mal""
I take particular exception to that remark. At no time
have I ever asked for nor do I expect anything. I made all my contacts with the
xpedtion 'fair-n-square'. I don't know what the duties of a PILOT are,
butif one of the duties is to take a personal disparaging shot at anyone
who criticizes the xpedition then you have more than succeeded at your
duties.

you're paying all the bills you get to do whatever, whenever, and however

'collection plate' was passed around and a great many hams stepped up with
financial donations. Those folks had the right to expect fairness in the
operating style of the xpedition. Yes the 3YØX operators must use
their best judgment possible pertaining to what band/mode is the most

What makes
you the arbiter of what other people should be doing. It's up
to manufactures to determine their expectation of operations, not you.
