[DX-CHAT] my 2 cents worth
1. If I see my call in the log, I'll leave the band/mode for someone else to work. No need for me to dupe what I can see is a good QSO. 2. I got a card from an expedition with one of my Q's NIL. The on-line log showed my missing contact as N2ERM (not N2ERN). Well, there isn't an N2ERM. The manager noted that I might wait a few months and resubmit the card with a note that they loggged my call incorrectly. Hell, if they didn't get my call right, then I didn't have a good 2X to begin with. I didn't bother resubmitting it. So yes, I like on-line logs. They can help keep pileups down and answer lots of questions. harry N2ERN Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX related items only, dx-chat@njdxa.org This is the DX-CHAT reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org

[DX-CHAT] A public apology to ND1L
We might all note that Bill appears to be a subscriber to this list. For some reason, Bill took umbrage (no, he was REALLY PO'd) at my forwarding his quite reasonable response to my eMail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] in this reflector. I didn't see anything personal, nasty or even defensive in his reply to me, and I posted it to the Reflector in its entirety, without comment one way or the other. Of course, I sent my original question to the LEAGUE, and not to Bill personally. Since the LEAGUE is OUR association, I didn't give a second thought to printing the LEAGUE'S response to this question and subsequent discussion here. In fact, some of you have since privately eMailed me thanking me for publishing the League's response. Apparently, I should have been more discreet and paraphrased the response instead of quoting it. My apologies to Bill for, if nothing else, bringing him into this discussion. Additionally, because of my many years of professional typesetting experience, I have also sent Bill a few suggestions as to how MUCH more data may be fit into less space. I have never seen any Yearbook that didn't list the members of the class, BTW. I'm done with this subject. Bill can ream me out personally the next time I bring a batch of cards up to Newington (hello, BS7H). [DX-CHAT] Best BS7H quote
The BEST quote, as reported by the XYL, was me waking her up when I yelled (on the last day)... FINALLY! The irony of it all is that today, 12 hours after they shut down, the openings from the East coast to the far East was... superb. Hong Hong, China, Korea ... all booming in. A day late and a dollar short. And my station is modest (to me). An Explorer-14 at 50', a venerable FT-990, and a kilowatt. Oh yeah, a voice-saving digital voice keyer (which also kept the noise in the house down to a minimum). Personally, I don't think this rockpile belongs on the list, and wouldn't be surprised if it's eventually removed. And congratulations to all who were in there trying, whether getting through or not. [DX-CHAT] tuning or memories?
The BS7H spots on 20 fone seem to indicate that this morning's op was just punching memory freqs and doing little tuning. Of course, that's his option. Give or take a couple of Hz, 200, 210, 220 and 227 seemed to gather almost all of the spots, as did three more freqs well outside the announced listening area. Of course, most contacts aren't spotted, so the sample is not particularly large, but... it IS curious. [DX-CHAT] mea culpa, I guess
I have been duly told off. I think that a split listening area from 200 - 225 is way too big. I think that FEWER ops were calling on the TX frequency (for a change) but the cops (wherever they came from) made things much worse (as usual). I agree that worldwide internet packet HAS made DXing more difficult. I don't know if that's good or bad. I DO understand propagation; I've been DXing for 24 years. At least I heard the station -- that's better than most of my friends here in NJ could do. And, I wasn't whining. I was only stating my own opinion of the operation so far. I hope it improves. Of COURSE we send money along with our QSL cards with the expectation of a return -- IF we are in your log. It ISN'T a bribe. It's to cover your card, logging and postage expenses. Anything over that is a gift, and we don't expect or want a refund for any unused portion. If we sent a donation BEFORE a trip, it would be just that -- a donation, and we would NOT expect a card in return -- but we WOULD QSL separately with another GS or two to cover the QSLing expense and, so long as we are in the log, expect a card in return. Among the nearly four dozen operators already recruited are ARRL CEO David Sumner, K1ZZ, and his wife Linda, KA1ZD.
