Ed,
Another keying solution that you might consider for the TS-850 is the
installation of an RCA phono jack on the back panel of the rig. This jack is
then connected to the keying circuit on the IF Board. You can then plug your
computer serial port cable into the new phono jack and use the e
Barry, Dave, Dan,
Thanks for your encouragement and advice. It looks like it is going to work.
Here is a little background information for those who might be interested.
The switch on the back of the TS-850 near the key jack is set to "manual" so as
not to use the internal keyer. The keying vol
As others said, yes should work. Make sure the small switch on the back of
the TS-850 is on manual keying (not using internal keyer). Since you are
using basically 2 external keyers (on/off keying of the line), either keying
will key the radio.

Even if both are transistor keying (open collector, same polarity); you still
wont have any probelms. the output that is keying wins!

Not Jim, but I may have the answer: it shoudl be yes, with some caveats.
I assume that you have a good serial keying lead already ? I know nothing about
the Heathkit keyer.
the normal way is to get a jack plug Y adapter for your radio ; that is, 2
quarter inch jacks to one output that goes to
Ed,
I'm not Jim, but I've paralleled my keyer output and serial port
computer-generated CW for many years. Just make sure your keyer has an
isolated output, i.e., a relay (reed or solid state) rather than keying
directly via a transistor output.

A question for Jim Reisert:
Using DX4WIN, is it possible to operate CW from a keyboard with a serial port
connection between the computer and the transceiver and then parallel the
output of a keyer (Heathkit uMatic Keyer) with the cable from the serial port
in the plug that goes into the CW jac
