DX4WIN is interpreting the FM as the mode of the spot, and you probably have FM disabled in your station preferences. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Season's Greetings 2001/2002 - http://www.ad1c.com/2001/ Jim Reisert AD1C, 7 Charlemont Court, North Chelmsford, MA 01863 USA +978-251-9933, [EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.ad1c.com

The first entry I found with a D was 1Z9 Myanmar (Burma). I clicked on the C in the band entry and the QSO appeared in the QSO window: 1Z9B on 20M in 1988. It looks as if the 1Z9 prefix has been deleted, and the current prefix is XZ. To prevent a QSO from being reported for DXCC, you can change the QSO from Valid to Invalid. But when I did this, the 1Z9 QSO was still listed in the WPX report. Perhaps you could transfer the QSOs with deleted (non-current) prefixes to another DX4WIN log. But why do this? The QSOs are still valid for DXCC awards. The report clearly shows that the prefix is not valid for WPX, so there should be no problem to make the submission as it is. Regards, Martin ZL1ANJ

[Dx4win] death to labels
I am interested in printing directly on QSL cards to avoid the use of labels as much as possible. I have looked a bit at the help file, but haven't found anything that indicates how this might be done. My best guess is that it would be a custom label, but I don't see anyway to arrange the information so that it will appear in the correct locations to match the boxes on QSL cards. Another issue is that it there would need to be a way to suppress the printing of addresses for direct QSL cards so that they aren't printed onto cards. However, it would still be good to print the address labels, maybe there could be an option to print just the QSLs that have addresses on label stock. The printed QSL labels could be used to match the address labels to the cards. Last, but not least: Is there a way to start printing in the middle of a partially used sheet of labels? 73, Ed N3HXQ

Luis, The save sub-directory contains the file dx4win.wpx. This is an ASCII file indicating all WPX prefixes that are 'deleted'. You can edit this file with a regular text editor, like notepad. After you make the changes, and send the file to me, I will be happy to include the file in the next release for all to use. Paul At 05:43 PM 1/26/02 +, Luis Sutil Teixeira wrote: Hi, 1. So the question is: In the main window REPORTS/WPX/LISTING we can see a cloumn with a 'D' (I presume for deleted...). How can I introduce that letter 'D' in that column indicating and updating that the respective prefixes are deleted? I've tried to find a way in the main logging window for some input with 'D' but no trace of it. 3. In the 'save' file there is a file named 'dx4win' type WPX file, that has some of the deleted prefixes (can be updated). How can this file interact with our main log? Is it interactive with it or its a simple and isolated file? In my opinion that file should be a 'tool' that could interact with the main log 'labelling' with 'D' if the prefix was a deleted one. This is - apparently - not happening. Ed, I am also VERY interested in printing directly to cards - and in fact am prepared to re-design my cards to accommodate the output peculiarities of DX4Win. But, also like you, have not figured out how to do this yet. Furthermore, I have determined that my HP Laser printer does not like standard US (5 1/2 by 3 1/4) QSL card sizes - the feeding mechanisms will not pass them. The smallest paper I can reliably feed through my envelope tray (which is how I have assumed I would be feeding cards...) is about the size of a Number 6 3/4 envelope (6 1/2 by 3 5/8). But, if I can avoid this ugly intermediate step of printing to labels and then transferring labels to cards, I will also order slightly-larger QSL card stock when I order the design that DX4WIN will print on. The bottom line is: if you need a buddy or a committee member or whatever as you figure out how to do this... let me know. FINALLY: regarding printing to labels within a sheet - DX4WIN includes a very handy feature when you print labels, titled missing labels. If you have a sheet of 30 5160 labels, and you have already used 12, indicate that there are 12 missing labels and DX4WIN will begin printing at position 13 on the label stock. Death to labels, well DX4WIN is only made for pre-customized labels right now, maby we will see a more user friendly label-printing-software within DX4WIN in the future that will make it possible to customize positions of the text-blocks. There is a state of the art software avaliable called BV by DF3CB, which allowes the user to customize everything with a few clicks! This is what I use for my cards. I have set up Custom2 label format as follows: Label Width: 119.99 Label Height:35.50 Nr across:1 Nr down:1 Horiz Pitch:119.10 Vert Pitch:32.99Paper siz: custom Spacing left:19.99 Spacing top:45.01 Page width:140 page height:80 Horiz shift:0.00Vert shift:0.00 Max QSOs:0 Portrait:(checked) Callsign Font:Andale Mono Body Font:Andale Mono Options: Comercial:9checked) Use lines:(unchecked) Call right aligned:(unchecked) This was posted to the reflector some time ago by one of our friends. I do not take credit for that. They can be adjusted to fit your cards. However, I designed my own format without the boxes. This allows Dx4Win to print several QSO's on one card. Thus the Max QSOs is set to 0 to allow the program to do this. If you only want 1 QSO per card, set this to 1. Larry... I have been down this road before. I wanted to print the QSL report on the left hand side of the back of my QSL cards. I actually tried 3 differant logging programs 'till I found one I could do it with. By the way... What laser printer do you have? I have an HP LJ 6P, and it feeds the QSL's just fine. You want to change the paper path so it does not have curl around the roller. Have it feed from the front, and exit from the rear. - Original Message - From: Mike Rhodes [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Pete Smith [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, January 27, 2002 6:16 PM Subject: Re: [Dx4win] death to labels This is pretty much the same thing I do too. Get the cards printed locally and then have them cut after they are filled out. Don't try to use the standard lever type paper cutter - it will cut them crooked every time. I have considered building a wooden holder with preset stops and a metal guide for a utility knife so I could easily do smaller quantities at home but that has not happened yet. To get your report to print in the right spot, just do dry runs of a sheet using regular paper and overlay it on one of your QSL blanks. Just keep tweaking it until it is where you want it then fire for effect using the real thing. Beware of the dreaded 'only one page in landscape' glitch in 5.03. It will print the first page in landscape and then switch back to portrait. Also, you cannot switch off the default printer from within DX4Win 5.03. You have to close it down and make the printer you intend to use the default. Then fire up DX4Win and print away. BTW, I have used an Epson 860, 880, and NEC SuperScript 870 and the landscape to portrait glitch exists in all cases (but not in 5.02). Mike / W8DN - Original Message - From: Pete Smith [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Sunday, January 27, 2002 11:48 AM Subject: Re: [Dx4win] death to labels Here's what I do (warning -- this does not work with some printer drivers -- check the archive! Symptom is a failure to remain in landscape format after the first sheet): I get QSLs printed by a local printer, 5 1/2 x 3 1/4, 4 to a page, landscape format on 8 1/2 x 11 67 lb vellum. I leave a 1 gap in the QSL card for the QSO data. I don't have him cut them initially. Cost, including cutting, is about $90 for 4000 QSLs at a time. I then feed them into my Deskjet 840C (also works on 700 series), set to print landscape format. My DX4WIN label parameters are as follows: Width and height = the width and height of the area in which labels are to be printed. I use 3 x .875. This where your QSO data will wind up. Horizontal pitch sets the horizontal distance from the left edge of the first label to the left edge of the second label. This equals the width of your finished cards, so I use 5.5. Vertical pitch sets the vertical distance from the top edge of the first label to the top edge of the second label, which equals the height of your finished cards, so I use 3.5 Spacing left is the distance from the edge of the paper to the edge of the label. I use 3.5 inches. Spacing top is the distance from the top of the paper to the top of the first label. I use 1.995 inches, but as I recall I had to tweak this last time to fit my sheets, which the printer had slightly mis-aligned. Horizontal shift and vertical shift are both 0. Be sure to specify number across and number down as 2 each, max QSOs as zero and uncheck the portrait check box. The preview function in the label database is very convenient for tweaking your definition to get it just right. Of course, printing on plain paper that you can lay over your QSL blanks is the final acid test. After I've printed my batch of cards I take them back to the printer and have him cut them while retaining the prefix order. Then it is a relatively simple matter to restack them into a box for the outgoing bureau. 73, Pete N4ZR Sometimes a tower is just a tower ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win

[Dx4win] Wish - Wildcards for Callsign Alert box
I wish the callsign alert box would take wild cards similiar to the way the F8 search filter does. So if I wanted to select all the new VP8 activity it could be VP8* or *VP8* This has the nice side benefit of allowing one to follow the activities of a targeted station. Even if he has been worked on a band it will still show up in the spot window even if grey spots do not. [Dx4win] New user with many questions
Go easy on me, this has not been an easy upgrade! I got the program installed in a newer old computer, moved the old logging program (Logic 4 for DOS), CT (3 versions) and 10 Megs of old contest files. I then trashed the motherboard and had to install another one. Today I did an import and had 7,500 errors, so I tried it another way and only had about 600. I fixed about 400 of them. Now for the questions. 1. How do I deal with Asiatic Russia Zone errors? 2. Same question for VE Zones? 3. Hawaii calls that are in KY,FL? 4. KG4 calls that are in 4 land not Gitmo? 5. It told me K5K was a State Side call, how do I fix that? 6. With packet announce it's either DXCC New Band/Mode orZone/WPX, is this correct? I need to hear, DXCC New Country, New Band Country and any New Band CQZ. Can this be done? 7. I have about 600+ buro cards to take care of. How do I find each one of those QSO's to mark it as confirmed and to print a label? Do I have to do a filter for each one? Hope I haven't overloaded you all, I've just been using the other logging program for so long it's hard to pick up something new. Thanks for your patience. 73, Bill KV3R Riverton, WV
[Dx4win] New user with many questions
I'll take a couple of easy ones: For the KG4 calls that aren't in Gitmo, the K5K call that isn't US, and the Hawaii calls that are in KY FL (my personal favorite is the Alaska call in Louisiana): If you pull up those calls, in the Prefix field, just put in the correct real prefix. For example, for the KG4xxx calls, put in K, for K5K put in KH5K, etc. You can also fix those when entering by preceding (or following) the call with the correct Prefix, though I believe that if you put it in the Prefix field, it will be remembered for future uses of that callsign. One more I'll take a crack at: Regarding the buro cards, you do have to search, but the handy-dandy F2 key makes things much easier. If you go into File-Preferences, select the F2 Key tab. You can set the F2 key to mark the card as confirmed AND flag it for printing, and even whether to go direct, buro, etc. One handy tip someone told me is to make a scratch copy of your database, and play around with the functions on that one. If you mess something up, you can go back to the original log, save yourself another copy, and move forward from there. Good luck! At 11:06 PM 1/27/2002, William Hinkle wrote: 3.
