[Dx4win] VERSION 7.07 PROBLEMS

2009-01-14 Thread py5eg
Hi Folks

I upgraded my DX4WIN with the version 7.07 and definitely Ica not make
the packet cluster working as on the previous version.
When I click a spotted station the program send the radio to that
frequency, and after 3 seconds the band window comes back always to 20
meters.
There are some other minor problems on the cluster management.
Somebody else noticed this problem? I already checked in 3 computers

Re: [Dx4win] Accidental deletion of log?

2009-01-14 Thread Don Cassel
Hi Jim,

I too have never lost my log and I have my doubts that it is a problem with
DX4WIN. Your diagnosis of shutting down the computer before the cache is
written might be likely especially if the shutdown it done using the power
switch. A normal sutdown from the Start menu would ensure the cache is
written first.

My own practice, like you, is to never shutdown the computer although I do
let it go to sleep mode after a period on non use. I also close DX4WIN
immediately after any use and then backup the log to another computer on my
network. A program such as Karen's Replicator
http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp makes backing up easy.
If he doesn't have a second computer then backing up to a different folder
on the hard drive or a thumb drive would be my next choice. Backing up to
the same hard drive is however, not a very safe form of backup. Hard drives
do fail.

About once every month or two, my father W1JR loses his log. The W1JR.dxl
file just disappears from the SAVE directory. Does anyone else share this
experience?

I have never lost my log in the many years I have used the program.

The *only* possible cause I can think of is shutting down the computer
before the log has been written from memory cache to disk. (I leave my
computers on all the time, sorry Al Gore.) It's NOT a slow computer - Core
2 Duo, 2GB of RAM, 7200 RPM hard drive, etc.

I'd love to figure out how to prevent this problem, as panic usually ensues
until I can restore the most recent copy of the log from one of the many
backup locations (the log is backed up at least three ways, not counting the
ways DX4WIN backs things up).

Thanks 73 - Jim AD1C

Re: [Dx4win] Accidental deletion of log?

2009-01-14 Thread Kjell W. Strom
Joe,

I just received notice of an available security update for
Windows XP. My computer is set not to accept automatic updates,
so I am safe, but how is JR's log? Around 12Z on a Wednesday
seems to be the standard time for MS updates.

Last year this procedure caused an infamous crash at Skype,
because so many connected computers cut the link and were reset
at the same time.

Hello Oms,

It sounds like you did not migrate your preferences from the old to new version.

Please see the upgrade note I wrote:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/upgrade.htm

If you have an ICOM radio, then you may need to check the DX4WIN Radio
setting for the baud rate.
