[Dx4win] DX Cluster connection

2010-01-24 Thread Randy Rhea
I am brand new to DX4WIN (and spotting nets for that matter: haven't been on
in 12 years, HI HI). Things are going fine except I can't connect to a DX
spotting cluster via the Internet. I have

1. Entered Type: Regular and COM Port:TCP/IP into the Setup Parameters for
the Cluster interface in the Packet1 tab
2. Examined but not changed anything in the Packet2 and 3 tabs

According to the DX4WIN Help file, After you have configured the TNC, the
DX Spots Window is available. Available where? I can't find a menu item in
DX4WIN that would open a spotting Window.

After 30 minutes of trying different things over and over, at one point I
saw a list of WWW addresses in a new Window. I selected one but nothing
seemed to happen afterwards. Now I can't seem to get the Window with
addresses back.

I must be missing some simple point or my system is blocking something.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Dx4win] DX Cluster connection

Randy

No-one has come to your Aid yet, but you might have done nothing wrong, just
not completed the process.

You found preferences; and you want to check Packet 1 tab. Assuming you
are using Internet, you use Cluster interface Type - Regular, COM port -
TCP/IP, the rest shouldn't matter.

IN DX4WIN , you should then have a packet window.

In the packet window, you see some commands, one is called Connect. When
you press this , you see a dialogue box no connection active; OK this ten
you get a screen called Select Internet Address. You will need to select
one of these, and you might have to set up an account; it sounds like you
haven't got one.

This should get you going. There are more tricks you can do, like use the
VE7CC software, but that's for another day.

Enjoy !

Type = Regular, COM port = TCP/IP

When you save your preferences, the Packet Spots and DX Spots windows
should appear automatically. If they don't, try exiting and starting
DX4WIN again.

If you're running any kind of Firewall software, you may have to
configure it to allow DX4WIN to access the Internet.

Right-click in the Packet Spots window and select Internet Connection

[Dx4win] Brain Damage

2010-01-24 Thread Hugh Valentine
I think I have over radiated my brain from 54 years of Hamming.

I am trying to get computer control for band changing, and CW keying going. I
have built an interface box to do this using one USB to Serial cable on a
Windows Vista 64 bit. I used my old keying interface I used to use on CT. I
took an old serial cable to go from the box to the CAT interface.

I have DX4WIN Ver 8.02 and also N1MM loaded on the computer.

Facts: The interface, using COM4, will activate the CAT port on the FT-920 but
the CW is a continuous Tone. The Interface will Key the CW in N1MM fine, but
no CAT control.

What is going on? Any Rocket builders or Techno dudes that can give me some
insight so I can do CW and CAT control on both programs/N1MM and DX4WIN? I'm
fried.

Im using DX4WIN for Logging and Award control and general keying, and N1MM for
contesting.

Thanks for any insights.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN.CTY Release #74 - 25 January 2010

2010-01-24 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
I made a mistake, and had to update the file.

When you download dx4win.cty, make sure it has this date/time/size:

 1/24/2010 19:10 1,988,143 dx4win.cty

You can also check that you have the correct file by closing your log
and going to File | Databases | Countries. Then File | Check for
Errors. There should be NO errors if you have the correct database.

I always check the file for errors inside DX4WIN, and haven't seen an
error in months. This time, I forgot to check, and guess what?!?!?!
