[Dx4win] DX4WIN and Elecraft - Using Multiple COM Ports

2015-08-14 Thread Byron Peebles
There is a new Application note on Elecraft.com for using multiple
virtual COM ports.

"Many contact and contest logging programs require the use of dual COM
ports at the host computer for transceiver control and keying. This
Application Note introduces methods for concentrating multiple computer
COM ports to a single transceiver serial port, using COM Port
Concentrator (CPC) software. An example is used for illustration purposes. "

DX4WIN.CFG is your configuration/preferences, it is a binary file that
can not be read by Word.

DX4WIN.INI is a plain-text version of your configuration, which you
create from Preferences by "Write INI File Settings". DX4WIN does not
read this file directly, unless you use "Merge INI file settings" in
Preferences.

Re: [Dx4win] Error

2015-08-14 Thread Alan Zack
I saved this email for my info in case it ever happened to me. IT DID happen
to me today.

DX4WIN has been working FB with no problems. I have not done anything to
change its configuration. I used Jim's DATA UPDATER program about a month
ago to bring everything up to date (his latest revision).

Last night I closed DX4WIN normally and shut off the PC. This morning on
starting up the PC and opening DX4WIN normally, I had the same problem as
Wayne did below:
In my situation, the main window opened normally but the font was different.
Normally when I open DX4WIN my Map, Same Call, Country, and IOTA sub windows
open with the program. Today they did not open. When I try to open them
using the WINDOW drop down menu I get the error message. ERROR: An
exception has occurred. Fixed Column Count must be less than column count.
In addition, all my saved info in the PREFERENCE window such as my address,
my user level, my font settings, ext data, etc. was gone.

So as Jim suggested below I exited DX4WIN, went to my SAVE file, found the
DX4WIN.CFG file and renamed it xDX4WIN.CFG, and opened DX4WIN again.
Now I can open the MAP, SAME CALL, COUNTRY, IOTA widows OK BUT I still do
not have the settings in my PREFERENCE window as before.
BUT my main concern is my MAIN LOGGING WIDOW has shrunk. I use a 21-inch
monitor. My main log window before was 6 1/2 in by 5 1/2 in. Now it is 5 1/4
by 4 1/4 inches. I have to lean way forward to read it. Also in the
PREFERENCE/SCREEN window, I cannot change the FONT style or size. The scale
factor is stuck at 80. I want to change it to 100 but it will not change.

In my SAVE file there is a file named DX4WIN CONFIGURATION SETTINGS. When I
click on it, it opens with WORDPAD. I see all my preference data, such as my
address, fonts, ext data, etc, in this file. Why can't DX4WIN find this file
when it opens? Is that my problem?

Was some file saved in the wrong place? My PC uses WIN 8.1. Sometimes it
wants to save docs I am using to some place named ONE DRIVE. I have checked
there but there are no DX4WIN files there.

I do not know what happened. I also have DX4WIN installed on a laptop that
is still working OK. I will update my K7ACZ.DXL file and I will use it for
logging until I figure out what is wrong. Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

TIA & 73,
Alan, K7ACZ

Hi Wayne,

Please try this:

Exit DX4WIN

Rename SAVE\DX4WIN.CFG to something else

Start DX4WIN. It will create a new configuration file. See if the problem
is still there.

Re: [Dx4win] Tr : PSK31 with K3/DX4WIN : PLEASE HELP !

2015-08-14 Thread Bud Semon
Hi Radi,

I don't use PSK31, but the Prolific USB - Serial converters are known to
have many problems. My first recommendation is to change to USB - Serial
converters that use the FTDI chipset.

Also, I believe his second connection description is not correct. The
Signalink must be connected directly to a USB connection on the computer.
There is a special cable required for each type of radio that connects the
audio outputs of the Signalink to the radio. The radio serial port must
also be connected (through the USB - Serial adapter) to the computer
directly.

I hope this helps.

Hello Luis,

I don't know if the offending QSOs share the same group number with the
good ones or not. If you can separate the bad QSOs by group number then
you could try to filter the offending QSOs and remove them by using
multiple QSO operations/Delete QSOs.

You could also try to export the log (File/Export/DX4WIN8) and then
create a completely new log and import the exported log into the new log
and select "Imported QSO is ignored" as the option for the duplicate QSOs.

I hope that helps.

[Dx4win] Tr : PSK31 with K3/DX4WIN : PLEASE HELP !

2015-08-14 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
There have been no responses for my requests. Does it mean none of DX4WIN users

Hi,While I am on vacation,  my friend, F1AYO, who has just purchased and
installed DX4WIN, tries to make it work on PSK31 mode with is K3 transceiver.
He tried two connections between his PC  and K3:- USB on PC connector to K3
RS232 port via Prolific USB/RS232 interface- USB on PC connected to the Signal
Link USB interface, whose USB output goes to K3 RS232 port via Prolific
converter.
After starting DX4WIN, K3 frequency is correctly shown and followed. Opening
PSK31 window on DX4WIN, he has both scope and waterfall displays and the PSK31
audio signals received from K3 are well shown and correctly decoded.
PROBLEM:
- no PTT on K3 with different DX4WIN PSK31 and DX4WIN Preferences
configurations when PSK31 TX activated
- tried to key via VOX activated on K3: no PTT either
- forced K3 on TX via push-button: no TX modulation on transmit (TX AF is
supposed to modulate K3 via one of RS232 input pins; maybe VOX doesn't trigger
as there is no TX audio)

I will try to help Antoine via phone (I had never used any K3 radio and do not
know its features/configurations; Antoine says the K3 setup is rather
complicated). So,if some K3/DX4WIN user has a good PSK31 working configuration,
I would appreciate the info that contains: -- connection between PC and K3 via
USB or Signal Link (I do not know this one either :) ! )- setup of DX4WIN
Preferences related to radio, keying , CW and PSK31 parameters.- any particular
K3 setup procedure in order to make it work on PSK31 with DX4WIN
Thanks in advance !
