[Dx4win] WAS Not Showing All States Worked

2018-09-14 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
The fault was mine regarding WAS Not Showing All States Worked
The last entry in the imported ADIF file showed the state but not in the
other qso’s.
I didn’t look at all entries and assumed they all had the state included.
DX4WIN was correct in showing the one state as worked ( W ) but not any
others.
Thanks for your reply and sorry for my mistake.

This was not the solution:
Go to File>Awards and check in the WAS tab the modes you use. Probably
are unchecked.

In File>Awards>WAS Tab:
1.In the Mode Group all four modes are checked
2.In the Awards all three awards are checked
3.In the Valid Modes all fifty modes are checked including FT8.
4.In the Valid Bands 30M is checked along with others.
5.In the Award Bands 30M is checked along with others
6.No dates are entered in the Start Dates Confirmation boxes and never have
been.

Need help.

[Dx4win] WAS Not Showing All States Worked

2018-09-12 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
I noticed my 30M WAS count was low.
Reports>WAS>Summary. Band, Mode, Mixed, All modes, All Bands selected.
Summary shows 1 Worked and 3 Confirmed on 30M.
Reports>WAS>Listing shows the same as the Summary.

So I worked many states on 30M over the past few days on FT8
using WSJT-X with JTAlert.

I take the JTAlert log.adi and run it thru ADIFLOOKUP.
This utility uses QRZ.COM to wash thru all the logged contacts thru QRZ.COM
database, adding the missing info such as name, address, State, County, Country
etc etc.
I then take the ADI output from ADIFLOOKUP and import it into DX4WIN.
Been doing this for at least the past 10 years. The utility is worth its weight
in gold, especially for 1,000+ weekend contests.

I then looked at the last 10 entries from the log in the QSO window.
The info was all there including State and County etc.

I then selected the last contact in the log.
W3IH. The QSO window shows:
State NM
County Sierra

I did this check for about the last 20 contacts in the log worked on 30M.

When I look in
Reports>WAS>Summary. Band, Mode, Mixed, All modes, All Bands selected
The Summary STILL shows 1 Worked and 3 Confirmed on 30M.
Reports>WAS>Listing shows STILL the same as the Summary.

I looked at the .ADI file that was imported and all the info was there.
That’s why the QSO window has all the info in it for State, County etc.

BUT

Why is
Reports>WAS>Summary. Band, Mode, Mixed, All modes, All Bands selected
and
Reports>WAS>Listing
NOT being updated?

[Dx4win] Award Submission

2018-08-03 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
How do I create an award submission which includes one CSV file for all
mediums, not just QSL Card or eQSL?

For WPX award submission both QSL Card and eQSL are selected in the Award Setup
for WPX since both are acceptable for confirmations.

But I’m forced to choose one or the other in the Submission Medium box. Not
both (or all) is available as a choice.

I need to send CSV files for Mixed, Phone, CW and Digital files that include
all acceptable mediums in each Mixed, Phone, CW and Digital file.
Otherwise I’d be sending twice the files.
Four eQSL files and four QSL Card files. The award manager would then need to
combine the respective QSL Card and EQSL CSV files.

The Reports>Summary shows a 1 in the worked column.

Re: [Dx4win] VUCC Grid Listing

2018-07-08 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
Sorry, false alarm.

Background:
I removed a grid for a contact. That grid was included in the Reports>VUCC
LISTING.
When I removed the grid with the only QSO associated with that grid the grid
remained in the listing with a blank under 6M, 2M and 432. - all blank for
that grid. If I clicked on the blank I got something that said no
association. Can't remember today exactly what it said..

Today I restarted DX4WIN and all is OK.

[Dx4win] Compare DX4WIN DXCC Credit Status With LOTW Utility

2018-05-01 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
The compare utility returns:

Z60A in Republic of Kosovo does not match any DXCC entity in DX4WIN

ERROR: Couldn’t find DXCC entity for prefix Z6.

This is confusing because DX4WIN itself lists in Reports>DXCC Listing in the
matrix: Z6 Republic of Kosovo. The DX4WIN matrix also shows credit on various
bands.
DX4WIN also gives me credit both direct and via LOTW.

It appears to not be a DX4WIN issue but maybe one with the compare utility.

Hi Jim,

Thanks.

I had on a backup computer with my log.
I normally update this each nite by copying the station log into the backup
computer but forgot last night.

When loaded the backup log into my station computer all is ok.
Only missing was SV9CVY on 160M FT8 from last night.
Fortunately I wrote the info on a scratch pad when he was worked.

Still don't know what I did to change all [*] to [C] in the DXCC Report>List

Hope to never do that again.

This may seem like a dumb question, but

How long ago did you mess things up? Do you have a recent backup of
your log from*before* that? Start with the old log, and Use File |
Import then File | Merge DX4WIN log and use your current (new) log for
that. Make sure to select "Duplicates are Ignored".

This will add all your new QSOs (since the backup) to the log with the
good DXCC status. If you have confirmed QSOs since that backup, you
will have to do those again.

Was just hoping for some magic in finding any QSO's with IOTAs that I failed
to enter from more obscure places listed in the IOTA site listing.

Again thanks for your help. Always appreciated.

Bud, please re-read this and see if it makes sense:

The answer is basically yes. But it's not going to assign any obscure

First, what option did you use on the Import as the option for
duplicates? If you used "Imported QSO is ignored" and you already had
those QSOs in your log, you'd need to pay attention to the display that
comes up that says how many were actually imported and how many were
ignored. For example, I just read in the WSJT-X ADIF file which has 866
QSOs in it and it said:

Import Finished

866 QSOs were read
[A bunch of other stuff]
866 Duplicate QSOs were processed

In that case, it didn't import anything because they were already there.

If you hadn't previously imported or otherwise entered them, I'd suggest
that you look at one QSO that you know is in there and see what the mode
is set to, we can then figure it out from there.

Hello Bud,

You have several options when importing QSOs. When you select a file for
import, a window opens up entitled "Options for duplicate QSOs". It has a
drop down menu and the default option is "Issue warning and stop".The
next two options are "Imported QSO replaces existing QSO" and "Imported QSO
is ignored". Simply select whichever one of these you like and the import
will proceed. GL.

[Dx4win] eQSL Confirmations

2012-02-28 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
I uploaded to eQSL DX4WIN logbook contacts from the 160M SSB contest. DX4WIN
asked if I wanted to upload 496 contacts.
That was the correct number of contacts made so I said yes. I have the
generated .adi file which was uploaded to eQSL. A
few days after the contest I downloaded the eQSL report (which I have) and
imported it into DX4WIN. I was surprised to
see all 496 contacts were confirmed.
I then went into eQSL to see who was confirmed. Only saw about 40 confirmations
on eQSL.

This phenomenon also happened during the last contest. I also read about
someone reporting the phenomenal success rate
after that previous contest.

It appears that I must be doing something wrong - although I've been uploading
to both LOTW and eQSL via DX4WIN for
quite some time.
(BTW, DX4WIN showed 17 confirmations from LOTW which is correct. So no issue
with LOTW).

I now need a way to purge all the bogus eQSL confirmations and find out how to
fix the confirmation issue.

It doesn't appear to be an eQSL issue since eQSL doesn't show everything
confirmed. It may be an issue with the DX4WIN
generated .adi upload and/or .adi down load files - but I can't read .adi. Just
guessing.

Looking for help.

What was the mode that it complained about, and what version of DX4WIN
were you using? I have had NO trouble uploading to LoTW and eQSL using
7.07 and 8.0x. Note that PSK is *not* an ADIF mode, you must choose
PSK31 (or PSK63 if it's available). This is a common mistake.

[Dx4win] ADIF V2.19

2010-08-23 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
Jim found the source of the ADIF problem.

It was NOT related to a fault in DX4WIN.

The source of the ADIF issue was the pass-thru program I used to automatically
populate grid, state, county, address,
etc. by looking up the information from QRZ.COM and saving a lot of tedious
work.

Bud, I had this problem recently (tried to start DX4WIN twice at the

the DX4WIN.CFG file and merge in my .INI settings that I had saved
prior to the problem. I would not trust writing the .INI file
post-problem then merging into empty CFG file.

[Dx4win] WPX QSL's Oldest Confirmed

2009-11-12 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
DX4WIN V 8.02 is consistently choosing the oldest QSL to confirm in a listing.

I opened Reports WPX Listing. I want to QSL all the Digital W's (Worked)
that I could find.

Here's an example. I click on a W in the WPX Listing.
The entry window shows the QSO.
I flag it for QSL direct.
I happen to have the Same Call window open and notice that I have 32 RTTY Q's
with this call.
DX4WIN selected the oldest one. It was from 2002. It should have selected the

Traditionally DX4WIN selects the latest confirmed QSL.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I wasn't trying to create a submission.
I was trying to catch up on my QSLing of Digital QSO's that count for the new

This is how I've done it in the past for DXCC Countries, the Challenge,

QSL'd.

I'm not yet ready for a submission. I need to QSL them first.

What do I need to do differently in V8.02 to accomplish this objective of

Hi Bud,

When creating a submission, DX4WIN selects the most recent eligible
confirmed QSO.

When do you what you are doing, you are creating a filter. A filter
in DX4WIN always finds the oldest matching QSO.

Maybe you got the two confused

[Dx4win] CQ DX Field Submittal

2009-10-30 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
I'm getting ready to do a CQ DX Field Submission using V8.02
Since there are separate awards for Mixed, Phone, Digital and certain selected
bands, I put a check mark in Mixed, Band
and Mode in the CQ Field Award choices.

The Submission printouts for Mixed, Phone, Digital, 10M, 40M and 80M are all ok
with one entry for each grid.

However, I now want to choose specific QSL's to make the submission easier.
If countries located within a single grid field are selected (identified in the
application literature) and they are
confirmed by a national organization (such as LOTW) then a submitted QSL is not
required.

Here's an example of my problem:

Grid AG is only confirmed by two QSO's with ZL8R. One for 40M SSB and one for
15M RTTY.

In the ZL8R 40M SSB QSO window, in the CQFld column, I put an S (submitted) in
the Mode column (for SSB) and one S in
the Band column (for 40M).

In the ZL8R 15M RTTY QSO window, in the CQFld column, I put an S in the Mixed
column ( RTTY now adds a Mixed mode to the
previous SSB QSO) and one in the Mode column (for RTTY).

Problem: Now when I print out the mixed submission listing (selecting award CQ
DX Field, Checking only Mixed award,
Selecting All Bands and All Modes) the printout has two entries for Grid AG.
One for SSB and one for RTTY QSO's. Only
one entry should be listed for each of the Grids for the mixed mode submission.
In this case only the RTTY QSO should
have been listed since it was the only one selected (S) for Mixed Mode.

The above is just one example. I've done this for other grids that have the
similar QSO combinations. Now my Mixed
submission printout has many duplicate grid confirmations in it.

How am I supposed to accomplish this?

[Dx4win] CQ DX Field Submittal

2009-10-30 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
I expanded the QSO window using F5.

I have grid AH confirmed QSO's for SSB, Digital, and 10M.

I next made sure there were no award flags for any grid AH QSO - used F8 to
sort this.

I put S in the mode box for 5W0TR, a 15m ssb contact.
I put S in the band box for K8T, a 10M SSB contact.
I put S in the mode box for 5W0DP, a 17M RTTY contact.

I confirmed that no other qso with a grid of AH had any set flags in the CQ DX
Field submissions box.

I deselected in the Award box the checkmarks for both Band and Mode but left
the checkmark next to Mixed so that I would
print out only a Mixed submission.

I next printed the mixed submittal and darn it but there were three duplicate
entries for grid AH Mixed. All three of
the above QSO's, where I put an S, showed up counting for Grid AH Mixed. Only
one should have shown up in this Mixed
Award printout. Note that none of the three had an S flag in the Mixed column.

I next wanted to see what would appear in the SSB mode printout.

I selected only Mode in the Award box. I selected PHO in the Modes box and All
Bands in the Bands box.

The Phone printout had two entries for GRID AH. They were the two SSB contacts
above having an S in the award flag for
mode. One was intended for SSB mode and the other intended to count for 10M.

I've done these submittals many times in the past with earlier versions of
DX4WIN. This one is not working correctly.
Or, I'm not doing something correctly for this version. I cannot go any further
with this Submission until I know how to
use it properly.

It works perfectly if I don't try to select specific Grid QSO's. But I need to
do that because some QSO's that DX4WIN
selected are near the boundaries of two Grids and the QSL doesn't give a LAT or
LON or Grid location. I have alternate
QSL's that are clearly within the boundaries of a grid or so state that on the
QSL card. But DX4WIN won't let me make
any changes and still print out properly without having more than one entry per
mode or band.

I tried to give my exact procedure above and in my prior email. What am I doing
wrong?

Thanks for your patience and help!

[Dx4win] PSK31 Won't Key K3

2009-08-08 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
1. The radio is a K3. The DX4WIN radio selection in preferences is Elecraft K3
X4.

DX4WIN in radio preferences has Com 5 set for the radio. Both DTR and RTS
are checked.

2. I unchecked DX4WIN Radio Preference DTR and RTS and selected PSK31 PTT
control setting.
Still not keying the transmitter.

3. DX4WIN CW is set for COM 5, DTR Line CW Keying, RTS Line PTT Control.
This setting works for sending CW.

In PSK31 Settings I have keying line set to DTR and PTT set to PTT control.
No transmitter keying with this setup.

If I change PSK31 PTT to Com 5 I get the device already open error.
I think this produces a conflict with DX4WIN claiming Com 5 and PSK31 also
trying to claim Com 5. This is just a guess
by
me.

I still don't know how to key the K3 transmitter in PSK31.

[Dx4win] PSK31 Won't Key K3

2009-08-08 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
Version 7.07.02

If both CW and Radio ports in DX4WIN Preferences are changed to None,
then PSK31 can be set to Com 5 (the K3 port) and it will key the K3.

However, this leaves no control of the radio (K3) and is not a viable solution.

It test just proves, I think, that DX4WIN is not allowing itself and PSK31 to
use
the same radio port.

Does anybody have PSK31 working with the K3 radio?
If so, what am I doing wrong.
Help please from anybody.

Subject: [Dx4win] PSK31 Won't Key K3

1 what radio do you have ?
If not needed uncheck DTR and RTS
Select ptt control in psk31 setting
Setup dx4win-cw via same port like radio is
With correct setting of keyline and ptt for dtr and rts

 Guy,

 Thanks for the suggestion.

The PSK31 com port was set on VOX. I changed it to the radio com port
 which is com 5.

When I did this I get the following message:

An exception occurred device is already open.

DX4WIN in radio preferences has Com 5 set for the radio. Both DTR and
 RTS are checked.

I think we now have a conflict with DX4WIN claiming Com 5 and PSK31
also trying to claim Com 5. This is just a guess by
 me.

What do I do to fix this?

Make sure you set the correct comport for PSK31
Right click in psk31 window next to the shortcuts
and there you can change the settings

  I'm trying to setup PSK31 using DX4WIN Version 7.07.02.

When I hit the TX button I hear the tones but the K3 does not go into
  transmit.

DX4WIN works perfectly in both MMTTY and CW. It keys and sends in
 both
  of those modes.

What do I need to do to get DX4WIN PSK31 to key the K3?

[Dx4win] Log File Not Being Updated

2008-12-27 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
Whenever upgrading, I merge the .ini file from the previous version to the new
version.

However I found new log entries were going to the .dxl file located in the
previous version folder and not to the
upgraded version.

As a work around, I uninstall and then reinstall the new version and not use
the ini file from the previous version.
This places new entries into the log dxl file in the upgraded version folder.
Not being able to use the ini file from the previous version adds a lot of work
to the upgrade process.

I noticed this happening for at least the last four upgrades in the 7 series.

What am I doing wrong?
