[Dx4win] DX4WIN PSK with Windows 11

2022-07-08 Thread Tom Doligalski via DX4WIN
During the last year I switched from a PC running Windows 10 to a new one
running Windows 11. I thought everything was working fine, but recently
discovered that the PSK part of DX4WIN was not receiving any signal from my
Elecraft K4. Preference settings on DX4WIN look correct (same as under the
old Windows 10 machine).

The Sound settings in Windows 11 are a bit cryptic.

I should mention that MRTTY works just fine.

[Dx4win] Strange State Behavior

2022-03-19 Thread Tom Doligalski via DX4WIN
I have one particular station that I have contacted hundreds of times.
Whenever I try to set a state for him the operation fails: I get the
drop-down state menu, but am not able to take the entry (North Carolina).

I've got hundreds of NC contacts, but just this one individual can't be
assigned.

Any ideas?

[Dx4win] Elecraft K4 and XX4WIN

2021-05-10 Thread Tom Doligalski via DX4WIN
I received my K4 today, and I can confirm that the Elecraft K3 X4 rig file
seems to work well with the K4. I haven’t had a chance to try everything, but
so far so good!

As a cautionary note, I did have to load new FTDI drivers to get Windows 10 to
recognize the K4 (it had no trouble recognizing the K3 earlier in the morning).

[Dx4win] Comments in logbook?

2020-06-19 Thread Tom Doligalski via DX4WIN
Years ago, in the dark ages before we had electronics logs, it was very
convenient to write a comment in the logbook. Something like “new dipole” or
“new radio”.

I would like to suggest a similar function for dx4win. Maybe have the program
recognize and entry made with the callsign field starting with the #sign as a
comment. No entries for qsl, etc. but just day, time, notes for this qso. Maybe
the current frequency and mode.

Items would appear chronologically in the log, but nowhere else.

Not sure how difficult this would be, but it would be very useful, albeit only
used occasionally.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Will Not Start

2020-04-07 Thread Tom Doligalski via DX4WIN
I had the same problem after an update failed.

Wound up changing the home directory name for dx4win, and then downloading and
installing a new version of dx4win. Before moving everything over to the new
install, needed to run the update. Then just moved my license file, log files,
and preferences over to the new one install. Now works like a champ!

It would probably require more information to pin point what it could be.
You'd need to show your config for the packet.are the clusters you're
trying active (my favorite one goes down sometimes. And sometimes, my first
3 or 4 choices are down...but I keep trying to I get one that does work).
So what is your packet configuration?

Hi Dave,

Yes it is checked for follow Radio,

The red arrow moves, but disappears from the map, as the map is not moving
anywhere. I have to use the slider to see the red arrow again. Been that wat
since version 8.
I did ask questions then, but never got an answer, or any help.
I have been a DX4WIN user from the start, but this is the only thing that
never worked for me.

Dick,

Do you have Follow Radio checked at the bottom of the DX4WIN bandmap? You may
have to open the bandmap window all the way from top to bottom so that you can
see the bottom section. When you do that, it should follow your K3. The red
arrow moves up and down as you tune and it automatically updates with new spot
info when your radio changes to a different band.

Pity Still having problems with the band map not following the radio. This was
the case in version 8, and still is not working in version 9. The radio is a
elecraft K3, I own it since 2008 and never operated with any of the band maps
in DX4WIN. It does work with Wintest however. DX4WIN reads the radio ok. The
top of the band map shows the frequency, but the map is not moving as I turn
the VFO. Well some people never turn the VFO anyway, they stick to the FT8/ FT4
QRGs. 😊

QRGs. 😊

Multiple QSO operations will now remove multiple import messages

Custom award check did not mark QSO as changed when award was changed; Report
the count of the number of awards that changed

Changed time tolerance test so a window of 2 seconds allows QSOs 2 seconds apart

[Dx4win] Fwd: error messages upon Saving Data

2019-02-18 Thread Tom Doligalski via DX4WIN
Steve:

I tried to respond directly to you on your previous message from last week, but
never got a response.

If you are running Windows 10, it is quite possible that “Controlled Folder
Access” has been turned on during an update. You can either turn this feature
off in WIN10, or list dx4win.exe as an exception (if you do this you’ll
probably need to do the same thing for other programs like TQSL, etc.).

Under windows settings go to windows and security, then to windows security and
then to virus and threat protection. Go to virus and threat protection and page
down to the “Controlled Folder Access” settings.

Good luck!

Re: [Dx4win] Update problems

2018-12-15 Thread Tom Doligalski via DX4WIN
The same difficulty occurs when using dx4win to check the lotw adif
confirmation file.

Looks like a good workaround is to add dx4win to the list of applications
allowed controlled folder access.

Re: [Dx4win] Update problems

2018-12-15 Thread Tom Doligalski via DX4WIN
Turns out this is a problem with the fall update of windows 10, which by
default enforces “controlled folder access”. Switch this off (in windows
defender) and the update goes through seamlessly.

I see this with a number of other applications which are denied write access to
necessary folders….

Another “feature”!

[Dx4win] Update problems

2018-12-11 Thread Tom Doligalski via DX4WIN
I updated successfully recently, and just tried to use update again without
success.

Running dx4win 9.0.4.1176 under windows 10.

When I run “check for updates” I now see as error box from dx4win.exe that says
“file access denied”.

After looking through the log, it looks like dx4win is looking for a file at:

C:\users\documernts\dx4w9upd.log

Which is a directory which does NOT exist!

Should be looking at:

C:\users\tom\documents\dx4w9upd.log

(Note the inclusion of a user name, in this case “tom”).

This file is in the correct directory, but in this case from the previous
update. So, it looks like WPdate is trying to write the file to an incorrect
directory.

Anyone else see the same thing?

[Dx4win] Ts-890s

2018-11-19 Thread Tom Doligalski via DX4WIN

Borrowed a Kenwood TS-590S while my Elecraft is in the shop. Radio seems to
work fine, but can’t communicate with Dx4win.

Device manager (windows 10) shows com5. Baud rate set at 9600 for Dx4win and
the radio. Using the 870 rig file (per AD1C).

Ideas?
