Re: [Dx4win] Commander

I use VSPE to let my Ftdx-5000, SDR-IQ, DX4WIN and N1MM all share the same
virtual com ports at the same time. Easy to set up and free. For Windows.

http://www.eterlogic.com/Products.VSPE.html

Works the same way as the microHAM router software without the need to get
the microHAM interface. Acts like a old time 'TSR' program that sits in the
background and does its thing like a traffic cop. Works great!

DX4WIN has to have exclusive access to COM ports. So I think the
answer to your question is No.

I can use both DX4WIN and WriteLog with radio control (simultaneously)
using my microHAM interface. (other similar products probably have
this feature). The microHAM router software can create two virtual
COM ports that talk to the same device (ICOM radio). Each program
connects to a different virtual COM port (in my case, DX4WIN on COM3,
WriteLog on COM4), so each thinks it has exclusive access to the port.
If you spin the dial, the frequency is updated in both programs.

In the distant past (pre-microHAM), I remember using some kind of
software driver (think: TSR [am I dating myself?]) which could split a
single physical COM port into two virtual COM ports. I don't remember
much about it, unfortunately. You might be able to Google it. I
think at the time there were two, one required registration, one did
not.

I too have been using LP_Bridge for a long time with about 5 virtual serial
ports via 1 hardware serial port - the program has now been upgraded to also
allow Yaesu and Kenwood radios to do the same as Elecraft - wonderful
product!

Another all software option is LP-Bridge which allows you to create several
virtual com ports that can share the same Com port for controlling the
radio. I use it to run N1MM and DX4WIN at the same time during contest
weekends.

Just do a Google search for N8LP LP Bridge. It's available as a free
download. It works with my K3 just great.

 Works great!

Unfortunately VSPE works nothing like a traffic cop (or microHAM
Router); it is more like a high speed merge of two very busy highways.
Data from multiple applications is simply combined without flow control
- much like serial ports connected using a diode matrix. With VSPE
there is no way to prevent polling or commands from one application
from colliding with those from another application and potentially
resulting in the loss of both. This is a particular problem with
applications that send two, three or four command at a time every
250 msec or less.

VSPE can handle a limited number of well behaved applications - those
that do not poll rapidly and/or do not overlap commands. However, the
number of applications (like DX4Win or SpectraVue/SDR-IQ) that are
well behaved are shrinking as developers continue to add more and more
control automation capability (be it simple S-meter and power level
polling to full glass transceiver interfaces).
