As my previous email may be somewhat hard to read, I'll rephrase it.
The release I'am using is Dogwood with no changes to the platform with
"AUTOMATIC_VERIFY_STUDENT_IDENTITY_FOR_TESTING": true,.

As a student there is no way to regenerate the certificate. That is the
problem.
As an administrator of course it is possible with the django console
command 'regenerate_user'.
But what it doesn't make sense for a student that has the SelfGenerated

We stopped using the edx-certificates repo because it was too hardcoded.
Since Dogwood version we use the webview certificates.
I got the chance to see these Standford changes live with some examples
with Steve in Madrid and it makes a complete new difference comparing with
the old version. Now
We are still using the ShoppingCart as well in production. Last year a
simple PR on this module was accepted. We will keep using it as long as it
is available. When it disappears, we will have to change to e-commerce.
