Notice that I just installed PulseAudio from Debian unstable with
libasound2-plugins 1.0.16 and it works well.

The only problem is that it increases latency from 40ms in normal
conditions to 340ms using PulseAudio.

Not sure it is normal but I would not recommend using it :(

I removed pulseaudio from my system and now Ekiga is ok. Tested it

Unfortunately, I do not think the problem is at our level...
Have you tried contacting eeepc developers? They could have a look (or
send one to us so we can fix it).

Ekiga is a SIP software, there are other SIP software available on
Windows.

Being a developer able to fix bugs, propose patches, compile, add
missing features that exist on Linux but not on windows.

I do remember doing an apt-get update and upgrade in the last few

Ouch! I guess that basically kills Ekiga. Its appeal was that it worked on
Linux and Windows which greatly increased its versatility. There just are
not that many people using Linux.

What is required to be a maintainer?

The Windows version is beta software. We do not have any maintainer for
it (I even removed it from the website). If we can not find a
maintainer, that means there is no interest for it, so we can drop it.

As for the Linux version, I do not think I can agree with you about the
numerous instability problems you describe.

I agree the ALSA problem is annoying and is reported by several people
(that is our number 1 bug).

The problem is that nobody having the problem can fix it and ALSA
developers do not seem to care about it. The ALSA plugin has been there
several years and was working perfectly until they did some change in
the library and triggered that bug.

Have you tried using the very latest libasound2 version ?
Have you tried debugging the problem ?

Yes, please ask them to tell us, because we rarely have crash reports
(except for the ALSA thing).

So is this your working (formerly working) UbuntuStudio 7.0 and Ekiga 2.0.11?

The assert error is how I ended up on this list. no solution so far, but
by all accounts it is a bug in alsa-lib that I have reported with ALSa.
I do not get the core dump so far. Any idea if you get the assert error
even if Ekiga works fine or if it is directly related to this crash?

This is yet another report of success with Ubuntu and Ekiga 2.0.11. I now
know of one person who got Ekiga to work on Slackware. This was a
separate build on a Slackware box that I think he said was not dependent
on Gnome that i have yet to locate. I will look into UbuntuStudio 7.10 as
well, not sure what that is as compared to Ubuntu distro. Thanks for the
tip

Me, I am in Sweden. It is believed most Linux users are pretty much
everywhere on the planet except USA. Great to see Ubuntu in Montana.
