Folks :
I have noticed that the AF gain on my KX1 is growing increasingly
scratchy. I guess that this probably means that the POT is on
its last legs. I am curious if anyone has had similar problems with
these pots?

P.S. I have ruled out physical damage to the part as I keep
I just received my sample of the Future Technology Devices Int'l (UK), FTDI USB
chip (surface mount) ... Parallax is serving as the US distributor. Nice small
size -- could fit inside the K2.

I have used a USB-Com adapter for keying CW on the K2 using N3FJP contest
software. Keying is generally smooth, but occasionally some dits and dahs
get stretched a little bit due to busy windows tasks in the laptop.
K1EL's WinKey CW Keying Kit offers a good solution for using the USB port
As part of the serial command set, the K2 allows the computer to send
data strings which are sent as CW. The message is something like
KY CQ CQ DE WA4FIB K. It works quite nicely! I just wish more
computer programs used it.

I have had exactly the same experience with KX1 #368. The AF gain has
been getting very noisy over the past couple months. I also keep it in
a Pelican case. I have been meaning to ask about it also.
Otherwise I have had a lot of fun with this radio. For example, just the

Ofcom and the Radio Society of Great Britain are pleased to announce that

This information is available to all members of the RSGB and was posted
today on the members only portion of their website. By the way, RSGB is a
great organization, I'm a member and have donated to their foundation.
Their monthly magazine is fantastic and is worth the cost of membership.
Based on what I've read, it appears that the MH-2 microphone's gain is
well matched to the K2's KSB2 module. In as much, would there be any
benefit to implementing KI6WX's Increased Gain and Reduced IMD
modifications when using an MH-2?

The ham who I bought my K2 from is searching for the 2 probes that come with
the K2 kit. He and I have no idea what they look like. Can someone provide
a photo of either or both probe or give a general description of the probes.
Are they molded plastic fancy probes or just a paper clip
Hi all,
New to the list and just received my KX1 kit. Anything I ought to know before I
dive in? Any mods needed?
