Is such an elaborate carrying case necessary? To carry my KX1 around, I use a plastic toolbox I bought on sale at Ace for 5 bucks. To cushion the KX1, I set it on some of the pink bubble wrap that Elecraft used to package the kit. This works pretty well, and there's plenty of room in the

I'm using a small semi-rigid Case Logic camera case. Works great, unzip one side panel to access small pouches for earphones, extra batteries, etc. and the other to get at the rig and antenna. Fits into the backpack nicely, cushions the rig nicely, and holds it's shape under reasonable amounts
