Sleepless in Aptos getting the final details right..
1) Get some sleep!
2) Better more correct details than shorter countdowns.

You guys sure like to keep the pressure on! ;-)
I hate to sound like the TenTec reflector a year or so back, but..
We'd rather you get it right than get it out the door 'on time.'
At least that is my opinion.

I forgot to power down my K2 last night before I went to bed. Well this
morning I noticed the display was blank and no audio was coming from the
speakers. The only sign of life is a slight pop from the speaker when
powering the K2 back to ON with either the external supply or the internal
battery.
Ed,
You will have to open the cover and make some measurements before we can
comment further, but about all we can say right now is that you have a
problem somewhere in the power supply circuits or the voltage regulators.
Do some DC voltage measurements as indicated in the troubleshooting
I meant people like me (that may not be normal), who ordered up front and
are in first batch in July.

Don't forget to shut off the back panel switch like I didn't. Sounds like
the battery didn't get power from the outboard supply to recharge it. Been
there done that.

I am considering modifying my K2/100 for mobile operation. Ideally, I
would detach the front panel and control board and mount them in the
dash or near the driver with the remaining transceiver pieces in the
rear of my SUV in a modified EC2. The SUV radio/CD player has an
auxiliary input, so I
I'm sure this has been asked and answered before, so please forgive me if
this is redundant.
If I were to purchase a factory-built K3/10 would I be able to buy and add
the 100 watt amp later (add it myself, that is)?
Thanks

K2 #1103 (and pretty happy with it)
Tom,
Yes, all the options, including the KPA3, are user installable. After
installation
you will have to go to one of the CONFIG menu options to actually activate the
option.
Thanks.

Typically in audio applications you don't worry about impedance matching, an
aux input is typically a high Z (think input stage of op amps or similar)
and they are expecting a low output impedance from whatever you are feeding
it with. You should feed an aux input with line level audio.

Well Bill, remember that word ASSUME? If you ASSUME you make an ASS out of
U and ME?
After Don's reply I checked thebattery switch and then started doing
voltage checks and couldn't get voltage anywhere. I put the top back on
and again and hit the power switch and I could get a slight pop sound
Does the K2 have an adjustment to correctly set the cw speed? If it does I
can't seem to
find it.
When I set the CW speed on mine on 20 wpm it actually sends about 25 to 27
wpm.
I realize that you can slow this down by more spacing between the letters,
but it would
be nice if it could be
No shame Ed. We all learned something today.

I use the craniometerit is not part of the K2, but virtually all CW ops have
access to one.
Sadly, each craniometer has it's own calibration
Hello all and an early July 4th Greetings,
I'm in need of an article...Help for Amplifier Failure in the HP8640B.
I believe it is in QEX July 2004 page 18. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks, Happy 4th

I just bought a KPA100 that was advertised on QTH to put on my K2, but
after buying it and before getting it I ordered a K3 100w version so I
won't need the KPA100, I now want to keep the K2 as a qrp version. I
never installed the KPA100, but the previous owner stated he used it
sparingly and
Ah, Yes... the radio is good, the operator error is at it again. I work on
PCs and know the issue all to well and am just as guilty as the next guy...
the more we know the harder we fall. Glad you found the cure... nothing
like a little power to keep the battery charged :-).

Group,
Sorry this isn't Elecraft per say, but I figure someone here has
built Don Brown's solar controllers and I haven't been able to reach
him by email.
The short of it is, a finished picture of the small 1.5 Amp
charger/controller would help me a lot if it could be sent (attached
email)
