OK Folks, I will confirm the bug. We are working on it now and will have a
solution ASAP.
My tests show that communications is normal after this point, meaning that the
KPA properly communicates the OPER mode to the K3.
The work-around is to set the POWER-ON mode to STBY.
Our apologies for this
Rich,
What firmware version are you running? I have version 4.61 loaded and
do not see the problem.
I just tried it using the K3 Utility Terminal window, and listened to
the monitor with the K3 in TX TEST and heard (and decoded) the text sent.

I will try to explain as best as I can.
When I put my K3 into RTTY mode it does not TX FSK. I get a single tone
with no power out.
Until I go into the menu and switch from 45baud FSK to say 31baud PSK and
back to FSK?
I know this has been discussed before but I have not seen any fixe
Oh. When I said missing pins, I really mean missing continuity in the cable.
There may be pins showing, but not connected internally in the cable.

The cable they supply is missing pins 1, 4, 6, 7, and 8 on purpose. The band
data however is on pins 3, 9, 13, and 14. If you have continuity on those pins,

Before getting the kat500, I had an elecraft cable going from the k3 to the

Do you mean that the cable was missing 4 pins in addition to the 5 pins that it
normally does not have?

Thanks to Jack Brindle's quick response from Elecraft, the mystery has been

I have now rechecked all cables, and reloaded all firmware. No change. If I

Had 1.18, it exhibits this error, easily reproduced.
I went back to 1.11 and the problem goes away.
Rig is running 4.60 ... I didn't go to 4.61 since it does nothing for this

I believe 1.15 had the issue, and 1.18 is the latest revision that should

I'm having the same issue.
Recently I installed a KAT500 & upgraded both the KAT500 & KPA500 firmware.
I'm sure the K3 was sensing when to use full power (KPA500 = OFF or STBY) or
reduced power (KPA500 = On & OPER) before; it did not seem to matter whether
the K3 or KPA500 was turned on first.

I believe that I do, and, apparently it wasn't.
The new amp code is set to work 'better' with the KAT500, which I do not
have, since I would need a remote version and that's either not yet
available or it won't ever be available, I can't tell which.
I will simply go back to the old version o
Steve,
Do you have both the K3 and the KPA firmware up to the latest level.
I recall seeing something about that relationship before, and I am

This sounds like the new firmware fixed a bug. I don't think the amp is
supposed to put the rig in "drive power" mode when it is in standby
mode, only when it is in operate mode. I certainly wouldn't want the amp
to limit the K3's output to 35 watts in standby mode.

Hello David,
I have the internal transverter that is similar to the kit that you have and I
do not experience any spike at commencement of transmission.

The XV144 does not do that on its own.
If you are driving it with a K2 or K3, I know you will be OK,
But if you are driving the XV144 with something else, be certain that it

The new HRD could be very interesting for K3 use - the older versions
lack many features and do not indicate selections correctly.
Looking to hear good news.

No such problems here. Build it, David, you've been talking about it
long enough
Having just been told the reason I've blown the finals in 2 (possibly 3) 2m

what the Tx power is set to on the FT-857) before it settles down to the power

Then you are a lucky fellow, Ed. My VFO NR=ON is not nearly so
effective and neither can I advance the AF gain to 40 without horrible
distortion - my usual audio gain runs around 20 and the artefact is
clearly audible at that level.
I guess this suggests some considerable variation between units.
