I agree with what Elecraft say, Stan, and just follow the excellent

Stan,
If you install the rework eliminators, I strongly recommend you do *not*
change the value of C71 nor install D19 and D20 until you are actually
ready to install the real K60XV option.
Those component changes will alter the VFO Range Select in a manner that
cannot be properly tested
What I do is install the option sockets and plug the components and jumpers
that will be removed into the socket. You must be careful, then, that they do
not fall out. This works for all options except the K60XV, which requires
component substitution.

It's not quite that simple. To be really useful, the KX3 would also have to
support the special protocol we use between the P3 and K3 that keeps track of
VFO frequencies, modes, filter bandwidth, etc. There's quite a bit of firmware
involved. But I agree this would be a nice addition.

I did not install the rework elimininators and wish I had. I added the KSB2
last year and did not really enjoy the disassembly and reassembly of the K2
that was required. I also had difficulty desoldering the RF board jumpers

An alternative is to use a length of 1/2-inch Heliax using only the
outer shield. This stuff it pretty easy to find at hamfests and much
cheaper than the copper in it. I plan to make a 6-foot loop with
some (someday). I have an old U100 rotator that could rotate it on a

Tom Corbett, NL7OW, (BP40) has experimented with such antennas at HF
