Is there anyone in Canada or Ontario for that matter who will do the
alignment and testing of a K2.. I really don't want to send it Stateside for
customs reasons, I hate arguing over warranty, repairs etc with them when I
already paid for an item..
Thanks

I'm getting about 250 watts with ~7.5 watts drive. Works great. However it
takes more than 10 watts to get good tune action on the KAT500.

Hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving. As Mike Baxter on Last Man

Last Sunday, we had 22 participants on the net.
Here is the list:

The KPA500 provides between 12 to 14 dB gain depending on the amp and the
band.
FCC rule 97.317(a)(2) limits the gain of FCC-certified commercially sold
amplifiers for the amateur market to 15 dB of gain.
My KPA500 has about 12 dB of gain on 20 meters and about 13.5 dB of gain on
10 meters.

27W from my K3 gives me 500W out of the KPA500 on 10m. That's ~13dB.
If your KX3 delivers 10W, you should see ~200W out.

I don't have that particular combination, but a coworker does and posted
some photos of it:

He says he gets 220w out.

Although you got plenty of replies concerning possible firmware problems,
your symptoms sound a lot like what happened to one of my K3s recently that
in the end turned out to be a faulty KXV3, the so-called "Transverter
Interface" that also supports the RX ANT I/O and the I/F OUT.

There is a parameter initialization (EEINIT) procedure in the K3 owners manual.
You will want to save the configuration first, because it resets all
calibration and configuration, and you will need to be able to repeat all that
or restore the configuration.
I presume you have a K3 Utility and

Jeff,
The K3 Manual describes a process to force a firmware download if "you
accidentally load an old or incompatible firmware version and find the K3
unresponsive", and you might try that. Page 45 of the manual which you could
download from the Elecraft web site.

John,
You will need the VFO Range select relays to get any VFO frequency that
is usable, and you need the bandpass filter relays to establish a path
through the BPF, and you will need the LPF relays to get a proper path
through the LPF. So get all the relays in before attempting any testing.
Looks like fun Phil! Nice pictures of your antenna and rig in your
article http://ad5x.com/images/Articles/Portable%20Dipole.pdf
There needs to be a "KX3 Portable Operations" photos page in the
Elecraft web site.

My k2 is almost ready for its initial power on test. Studying the schematics I
think its safe to do so before installing relays as I have not ordered those
yet, any reason it wont work?. Also won't have 1n5871 sb530 yet either. I
realize preatt bands and other switches won't work yet. And
