I'm cheap. I don't throw things away until they are beyond any reasonable
use plus I like toys. So here is how I run my K3 remotely:
I have an old laptop for the shack computer. It runs HRD, has a four port
USB-Serial cable and wifi to the home LAN. It takes only a little power,
doesn't cost
I have Inv L connected to RX1 of my K3 and Hi-Z triangle connected to Aux RX
but no canceling system. I have to do this canceling in my head and it works
to the extend. I think, if you connect Hi-Z to one of the inputs of noise
canceling device and some noise antenna (TX antenna for example) to
Me too Rick!
Have used RC CW for 7 years with a Winkeyer as the only investment
But as you say it: there are many ways to do RC
I have a few additions though:
1) I operate exclusively CW (mostly ragchew type) and use a Winkeyer and WKDemo
software. Works great - normally no latency issue at all

Dear Bill and David,
I have used HRD to control a remote rig and all the info is in the files
section of the HRD Yahoo group. It will take some working out, well it did
for me as I not very computer savvy.
Also
Rick and others,
I use a power strip accessible via Ethernet. This power strip has an IP
address and can be accessed independently from everything else in the
remote radio system. I access this power strip to reset the PC if it has
gone off the rails. I use this power strip to power cycle the
Hi All,
Does anyone know where and when the next Ham convention will be in the
New England area?
And are they typically setup to allow people to check out products prior
to purchase?
Thanks! :-]

The 10uH inductors that go on the bottom of the rf board that are in the
transmitter area of schematic are what size? The ones I have are equivalent
to 1/4watt resistor. But the silkscreen looks more like 1/2watt size and it
doesnt specify anywhere I can see in manual. I ordered these off
Trying to set up a macro command to assign to front panel switch, to go from
speaker or phones plugged in rear, but not able to figure the full command. I
got command which brings up the menu option, but not the rest with just the
button press.
Please someone give me the command sequence
I have PF1 set up to do this, toggle SPKR+PH on and off.
It doesn't need a macro command.
Use the K3 CONFG menu, navigate to SPKR+PH, and then hold PF1 (the RIT
button). It says PF1 Set. Then tap Menu to exit the menu.
PF1 now toggles SPKR+PH.
It takes a second or so after you HOLD PF1 for

John,
The old inductors were larger than what is being used today. The new
ones are about the size of a 1/4 watt resistor.

I would expect Eric and his wife Lerma to have a booth at the ARRL 100th
anniversary convention in Hartford, CT in July. They have been regulars at
the New England Division Convention (Boxboro, MA) every other year. That
event is being superseded by the ARRL 100th anniversary bash this coming
Nice one Mike, It's nice to remember the old days mix them with the

both antenna posts. Which shouldn't work at all. Has anyone paired a K3 with

I am putting together my list and have some questions:
1) Does the stock K3/100 come with any filters ?
2) If I buy the Second Receiver (KRX3), do I need KXV3A ?
I do have receiving antennas for 160 80.
3) Can I connect an external monitor to the stock P3 or
will I need an optional

The 2.7 5-pole roofing filter comes with the K3 if you don't order the
2.8 KHz 8-pole. One of these is required for a basic K3.
2) If I buy
1) The K3 normally comes with a 2.7 kHz 5-pole filter. If you prefer a 2.8
kHz 8-pole filter instead, you can substitute it for the 2.7 5-pole by
ordering KFL3A-2.8_2.7sw at initial purchase.
2) You'll want a KXV3A for its Rx antenna connection. A KXV3A (IF out) is
also needed for the P3.

Yes. First, understand that IF filtering is done in DSP. Plug-in filters
are ROOFING filters. One such filter comes with the stock radio --

Hello Elecraft K1 users,
You have an Elecraft K1, and are thinking to go to 160m! I followed the idea
that was reported by Don W3FPR in 2006, ordered the X-tal at Andy Fleischer
in Germany(For Europe), and it is working, made yesterday my 1st QSO on
160m.
I made a small manual, with
