David, The backlight follows the MenuBKLIGHT setting no matter what you are doing. Just go to MenuBKLIGHT and select OFF. You can do this even while you are charging. If you shut your KX3 off during charging, you can still restart the KX3, go to MenuBKLIGHT, and then select OFF and
