Have you checked the owner's manual? Gain for the DVR can be set differently. You didn't indicate which radio you have. But the K3S manual, Page 30. While speaking into the mic, adjust MON for the desired level. (DVR playback level can be set differently; see CONFIG:TX DVR). -Original
