Good Evening,
Whew, 40 meters was noisy and copy was difficult. Even Brian was
weak today at 559. The QSB was not helping matters on either band. But
20 m was much better than 40 m. It may be time to move the 40 meter net
back to where it was at 0100z. I'll wait one more week and try it
Excuse, I sent privately but meant to keep on the Reflector.

Did you pull the rubber cover off the knob? There’s a hex screw under there.
It may have loosened enough for the knob to slip up on the shaft far enough to
be free wheeling. You can adjust the tension by pressing the knob closer to
the case..

I don't understand this Joe. The KPA500 has an internal PS. A separate
Astron PS serves no purpose for the amp. Do you mean both the amp and
the rig+PS are on the same circuit?

You might try removing the USB connector, Restart, check the device manager, if
a device isn't linked, remove it , then plug in the USB. If that doesn't
connect, remove it again, and then sort through the comports in the utility and
if that doesn't work, you may have different problem. I
Hi Bill,
Thanks for the reply.
I'm using Windows 10 Pro, Windows Defender.
I thought that you had nailed it. I checked the Allowed Apps in Windows

restarted the computer, no help. Shouldn't I hear a notification sound

Ed,
Can you connect the K3 Utility to your K3S using the USB cable supplied
with the K3S?
If not then it sounds like you have a FTDI driver issue.

Note the one item I have as failed. If you find the same on your machine,
simply quick uninstall, then go to the top tool bar and click on action and

I would expect you did a restart and went back to the Dick's suggestions? It
is a PC issue. What version? Anti-virus program?

I am using the K3s. I neglected to order the AUX cable when I ordered

but I don't think it will help in this case.
Maybe Elecraft Support will have an answer. I

That's the first thing I did Dick but nothing on the Windows Device

An off-the-shelf stereo to right/left splitter should do the job.
I hooked up my K2 this morning and everything seemed to be working
fine. I have the K2/10 with the KAT2 in one box. I built the KAT100
and KPA100 in the EC2 enclosure. With the K2/10 connected to the
KPA100/KAT100, I hooked up an antenna and initiated a TUNE on 40
meters. It started tuning
Quick report on AntlionAudio ModMic:
I bought model 5 which has both omni and cardiod pattern mic
elements. After a little K3 Manual study: page 55 for MIC SEL options
I chose to try using the 3.5mm rear mic jack; ModMic comes with
stereo 3.5mm so questioned if it would work in mono jack.
When running the KPA1500 at full power, sometimes the power will fluctuate.
EXAMPLE: I was checking in to the Elecraft SSB net a little while ago. While
transmitting, the power dropped to around 400W. This has happened on 20M CW as
well. I wonder if the K3S output is dropping. (??).
If I run
I’d suggest using the Windows Device Manager to view COM ports, see what COMn
gets added when you unplug and plug in the USB cable from the amp. If none
change, it might be a device driver needed. Usually Windows finds this driver
automatically if needed, but sometimes you need to reinstall
There are chargers available which will do a controlled current re-charge
and let you match the battery voltages. They are not cheap and not found
at your local electronics emporium. As I recall, I paid about $55.00 for
mine. I have one from a small German factory; it has an LCD for each
I received my KPA-1500 s/n 56 last Friday and have it on the air. All
is well with the exception of not being able to use the KPA-1500
Utility. I do not get a notification sound from the computer when I
plug the USB cable into the computer. I've reset the KPA-1500, tried
different USB
Sadly, no hams I know have the 1.21 gigawatts needed to initiate
the reaction.

condition, functions as it should.
Cosmetically good, one very minor scratch on top cover, one tiny nick in white

Pictures available. Complete with manual, factory carton, power cords for 110

Never mind, Operator error, I was holding REV NOT CW REV button. All
is fine in K2 Land!

Not quite: you would also need a new KPAIO3A interface board - and
even then, it would only be a partial upgrade.
My very early K3S/10 was probably the first to undergo a
comprehensive 'module migration' in the wild (5000 miles away from
the factory).
