You should be using hi/lo cut.
You can leave lo pretty much alone at 200 or 0.20. Adjust hi cut to your
preference or qrm. If you have narrow filters, they will engage at the set
points.
Sometimes it's best to use ATT before rf gain.
On low bands with static crashes its sometimes helpfull

I had something similar a month ago. When I would touch a switch or front mic
plug, the receive would come back.
I'm not sure it would completely disappear but definitely attenuated.
Turned out to be a PL-259 that was snug but apparently not tight enough.

Just a thought,
On SSB, you guys should try using LO HI cut instead of shift and width. You
won't look back and it will probally sound better.
You can probably leave lo cut pretty much alone and vary hi cut. Roofing
filters will come in automatically.
Try it.

John,
You may have another issue but I thought I'd post what I'm doing.
First I did have a low RX audio issue. When I touched some buttons RX audio
would come up. That turned out to be a PL-259 not tight enough at least so far.
Second, if I use a heavy dose of NR, the volume sucks similar
I don't think it's possible. Some dsp functions are not available with AGC off.
Sometimes it's quieter with AGC off and reduced rf gain but not always.
After 3 years, the best way to reduce hiss for me is to reduce hi cut (on ssb)
sometimes to 2.4,sometimes 2.1.
I would think in a contest you
The major thing he alluded to, I agree with. Elecraft needs more stable
firmware and displays.
I may be wrong but it seems there are too many instances of hiccups, bumps or
whatever.
I have a friend looking to buy and did not recommend the k3 without those
disclaimers.

Ken,
Yes,I have a Elecraft radio thank you very much.
I misspoke about the display but I have had some issues, not as many as some. I
have received help as well.
I'm sure there is a tendency to confuse beta with non beta. That's pretty hard
to do unless you keep a list.
I like the radio,
The LPA board protection for one. This occurs usually when using some amps.
The tell tale is reduced output and TX Gain calibration unsuccessfull.

I have a ongoing nuisance. On USB it seems high voices will pop/crack just

Turning agc threshold down has no effect.
Is there a agc setting that might correct this? I haven't tried slope which is

Let me add, I don't mind reducing rf gain more one on one BUT its aggravating
after a while in a group to turn it up and down for one or two guys with high

Seems AGC should do that?
Once again, it's like the high pitch voice is activating th AF limiter or a
similar sound. AGC
Joe,
Thanks. I should double check AF Lim. I've always set at 30.
EQ mostly flat with band 8 -16. I may experiment with -3 or -6 on some EQ
bands.

I've never seen Elecraft recommend running a K3/10 at 12w or a K3/100 at 120.

Since it was suggested that this hiss is band noise, I tried it with no coax
connected to the K3. Same result.
This may indeed have something to do with a flat response as suggested. I've
often wondered if other manufacturers roll this high end off. I think it's
somewhere around 3500hz. At
I think the audio voice quality has been remedied long ago.
What lingers is the high end hiss that I and a few others hear. Apparently this
only bothers a minority.
On my 5047 it occurs with hi cut of about 2500 and gets worse to 3000. If you
run bandwidth 2.1 or below you will never hear it.
