My K2 just started doing the same thing. I redid all the solder
joints between the board and the encoder, then checked the list
archives to see if anyone else had that problem.

Sounds like you are missing one channel of the encoder -- first step
is to check the soldering. Looks like the two encoder channels ENC A
and ENC B go to the RF board via pins and 13 of J1. Check the
soldering on those pins on the RF board and the front panel board,
also pins 9 and 16 the MCU
