Andy and all,
Perhaps the confusion is coming from the similarity of names.

It's clear that both the KPA500 and KAT500 must be RS-232 transmitters as well
as RS-232 receivers. If that were not true then the PC utilities could not
function. My station data logger has been polling, and receiving responses
from, my KPA500 since I first built it.

That make no sense to me.

Hi Andy,
The short answer is that neither the KPA500 or KAT500 can source signals -
they can only read them from a transceiver and then follow its direction.
This means that they can both read the status information from a Kenwood's

This does not require the AUX cables

My KPA500 receives serial data (listen only) from my TS-590 and follows TS-590
band changes without needing RF input. If I connect the KPA500 and KAT500
with an AUX cable will the KAT500 be selected to the same band as the KPA500
before receiving RF input? If so, what minimum pin connection

I have downloaded both the KAT500 and KPA500 remote software. I am using them at

You were quite clear, at least to me. The answer is YES. The normal
setup is the K3 AUX goes to the XCVR jack on the KAT500. It gets
frequency info. *If* you have a KPA500, another such cable connects
from the KAT500 to it. If you don't have a KPA500, that connector is
empty. Does that

My current setup is K3S, P3, KPA500, KAT500
I recently replaced my K3 with the K3S. I was able to run all the utilities
with no problem when I had the K3.
Now, the K3S and P3 utilities are fine. But not so withe the KAT and KPA ones.
Both take several minutes to come up and run.

As soon as the KAT500 is available I'll order it together with the KPA500.
I wonder why the KX3 is on the Elecraft site as a 'coming soon' and
there's no mentioning of the KAT500?
