I haven't tried the LiPoly batteries yet, but I did find a fairly decent
bargain on NiMH batteries charger at one place. They are made in China,
but the quality seems okay. Got 20 (count 'em) 20 2300 MaH AA batteries and
a charger that holds 10 at a time for about 50
Addition -- I had the battery vendor wrong - batteryspace.com not
batteryspot -- usual disclaimer, not connected to them in any way, just
reasonably satisified with their product. They have a bunch of different
battery/charger combo's.

Well I finished the SSB adapter for my K2 #5150 last night and promptly
worked Honduras on 20m.
Already this morning worked Netherlands and Switzerland with 5/9 and
5/6 reports on 17m.
Not bad for 10 watts and a vertical (R7000). At the bottom of the cycle yet.
(Of course all these
My experiences are with K1, not KX1 but may generalize if I can
manage to keep the form factor in mind. Also I use 18650 Li-Ion
cells but use figures for 14500 cells below, as 18650s are too
big for this application.
As others have mentioned, these cells require a specialized
charge-discharge
I am currently building my second K2, #5113 (first is #4853). I have
run into a problem with the Alignment and Test, Part 1. When I first
turned the K2 on, I got INFO 201, but it did not switch to the default
frequency display for 40 Meters. I turned it off and turned it back on
again, now all
Hello all,
I have enough ss rod to make around
20 SMD holders. After this batch, I'll
look around for more SS rod, but there's no
guarantee that I'll find more.
If you want one, get it now!

Hello All,
I've just finished building my KX1 and find I've got two thumbscrews,
part E700050, left over.
Have I missed something?

Jeff,
you didn't mention if you had others to begin with (inventory at start);
typically you need two for securing the back (battery cover) to the front...
If you have those already in place, did you also build the keyer paddle?
it has one (thinner knob than the KX1).
if not any of that, I
Well, you were supposed to get two of them. They hold the bottom cover on.
That's their only use. If you got four, you got a couple of spares G.

I just finished wiring and installing a KNB2 in my K2. When I turn the rig
on, I get the Elecraft display, then it goes to the normal frequency
display. When I press the NB button, I get the same not inst
message that I got before I installed this module.
Following the troubleshooting hints in
The 'not inst' message means only one thing - that the AUXBUS signaling is
not happening.
In the case of the KNB2, only P1 pin 7, C9, R6, and U3 pins 3 and 4 are part
of that circuit. Check each for proper values and good soldering. You may
want to recheck the soldering at the RF Board header
This weekend I shamelessly leveraged some of the best contest stations in the
world to manage 47 QSO's in CQ WW CW contest using my new Elecraft toy running
about 4 watts to an MA8040V vertical. I used the auto tuner to match the
antenna on 20m, and I snagged TF3CW, 5Z1A, PZ5C, and TZ5A. The
I have an excellent condition Elecraft T1 auto tuner that is factory built
for sale or possibly trade towards a Elecraft KX1.
$125 shipped and insured or if you have a trade on a KX1 let
me know what you have and how you'd like to trade.
Thanks

Good Evening,
The clouds rolled in thick and cold this afternoon. The fire was
warming the house but it felt damp. The shack was about 50 degrees when I
started the first net. I may have to try gloves next week but that will
not improve my sending one bit! May just have to seal off this
