Stephen,
I am looking through the KPA100 upgrade documentation and am trying to
understand what you have done. I believe you are referring to the
documentation for the KPA100MODKT when you state installing the KPA100
upgrade REV A. Oct 21, 2006; and you are apparently referring to the
Having never ever been on 6 meters, would some kind
soul advise me where the best to look for CW stations
(and SSB I guess) this weekend might be? Thinking I
should get my feet wet before the K3 arrives...
Thanks,

Another feature, not well known nor advertised, is that their (TE Systems)
amps have active bias.
This greatly improves their linearity and cuts down on local splatter.
Many of the existing solid state amps do not have any sort of stabilized
bias which is why so many of them on 6, 2 and 432 sound
Julius,
domestic SSB: 50.125 (calling freq) and up
CW: 50.100 and down is typical. (below 50.080 listen
for CW beacons)
DX window 50.110 (DX calling freq) - 50.125.
hint - when 10m has very short, strong e-skip it often
means 6m is open for business.

Julius,
50.125 mHZ - national calling frequency. Stations monitor this frequency
to facilitate making contacts. Usually I call CQ here and move off this
frequency to complete the contact. This is the frequency to monitor to
determine if the band is open. Most activity on this frequency
It's helpful to check Ch 2 for potential openings.
A clue for me is when there's QRM to my Dish receiver's
output on Ch 3. (:-))

Julius,
Welcome to 6M! I love this band.
A couple of things you should know in terms of operating that tend to be
diffrent on 6M than HF:
1) Except during times of extraordinary activity (contest weekend during
widespread sporadic-E opening), peole on 6M tend to channelize on 5 kHz
And know your grid square ... contacts WILL want to know it!

The CW beacon of VR2 is at 50.075Mhz. The 50.110Mhz is the common DX window

The manual for the KRC2 mentions a Web-based software tool for changing
the internal KRC2 tables. I found the firmware loader but not this other
tool...
My apologies if this is old news, I could not get the searchable archive to

Indeed, Geoff. In fact, all 6M-capable radios should come affixed with a
prominent label:
WARNING: OPERATING THIS RADIO ON THE 6M BAND CAN BE IMMEDIATELY AND SEVERELY
HABIT-FORMING. SUDDEN LOSS OF INTEREST IN NORMAL HF OPERATION AND THE RAPID
ONSET OF COMPULSIVE GRID SQUARE SEEKING BEHAVIORS
Very Witty! The thought then struck me! I have about 3 old rigs (Yausu
etc) that I deemed not worth enough to sell that had pretty nice tuning knobs
on
them. I pulled a couple and found to my delight that not just one, but two
had very nice knobs - counterweighted and dimpled - that fit
On our K3 page, you'll now find a link to a .pdf version of the K3's

Any of these specs may change pending further testing or design

Unfortunately due to other commitments, we are not going to be able to
