Johnny,
Some have done this, but the Li+ cells are prone to catch fire, so it's
risky. SLA is well understood and less risky.
They can catch fire when over charged, of course, but also when
over-discharged.
Some people are reporting the A123-manufactured Lithium Nano-Phosphate
cells are safer
Hello Leigh,
Thanks for your very informative reply. My next step is to cross the border to
source LiFePO4 cells in Shenzhen, Mainland China. Today, China becomes the
major manufacturer of various types of Li-ion cells. The price is so cheap
that the same as SLA.

Because of this, we've decided go with 10 m (28-30 MHz). The K144XV

I completely support the decision to run with a 28-30MHz IF.
Contesting (round here anyway) is invariably divided into either HF or VHF.
That is to say there is either an HF contest running, or a VHF contest
running, but not both. This means that interference from a high power
I thought the RoHS compliant stuff that Elecraft is doing was all in the

I should explain:

IMAg = Immersion

Although you can see the amount of offset change as you rotate the knob, it
would be helpful to have the amount of offset visible to the operator at

Good grief! That reminds me of the old Omni V which had no RIT. TenTec used

you get a permanent display of the RIT/XIT offset.

Re-check those instructions for the MH2. The resistor goes between pins
1 and 6. Pin 1 is the AF line, and pin 6 is the 5 volt line. You must
pipe voltage to the AF line on the mike (through the resistor) to make
it produce audio.

There may be a slight change in the pitch of the received signal when
