You will also need a means of making the K3 go into transmit. A
work-around would be to use VOX.

Not a work-around at all -- that works VERY well. I do a LOT of
contesting, and a fair amount of FSK441, JT65, and ISCAT, and I've never
felt the need
Question... how will the resolution selection be controlled? Through P3
firmware?
Looking forward to this addition... the eyes aren't getting any younger!

I removed all the boards added with krx3, connected again all without the

I just noticed that when I push the spot button the K3 will QSY down a
little over 2 khz. It is never the exact same amount. It does not
necessarily stop on a signal. This happens when I have a CW signal in the
passband or not. The last three times I did the calculation it

It sounds to me like you have autospot enabled. I'm not sitting in front of
the K3 at the moment to check. That will go qsying away in search of a tone
when there isn't one, so that would make some sort of sense. Can't remember
how to turn it off though!

Hi Stephen Robby,
Autospot is turned on when the CWT is activated. You can see this on the S
meter display. With CWT activated, the right half of the S meter display
shows the CWT tuning bar. Press the CWT button to toggle it on and off. As
Stephen indicated, with CWT active the SPOT button
The KAT500 tuner has two antenna outputs that can be switched in this manner.
We are in final test and development on this right now.

Thanks for all the answers and the schematic pdf. And I finally found the
reference to the transistors in the Theory of Operation in the owners manual -
did not see it the first time I looked (must be getting old).
Thanks to all that replied.

Don,
I have been reading this with interest. Just wanted to add a word of support.
I have made two 80 meter loops fed with 450 ohm ladder line. A 160m loop is
just larger. I have used a Johnson Viking Matchbox tuner, and one with a
roller inductor with them. (I use a MFJ-212 Matchmaker to

Others have mentioned the Autospot feature, and here's an observation on
that as it relates to your issue of a large freq change.
If my freq resolution is at 10Hz or 100Hz and I try to Autospot, I will
get a 2kHz shift as you described. If, however, I am set to 1Hz
resolution, the Autospot
What firmware version is being used? When using the auto tune function the
radio should go into fine tune mode and then turn it off after the tuning is
done.

I'm using 4.39. I just tested it to double check my previous statement.
In 10Hz tuning mode it IS changing to 1Hz mode and tuning properly. In
coarse tune mode (100 Hz), it is not changing tuning rate. I withdraw my
statement about the 10Hz but stand by the 100Hz.
Thanks for making me check!
Note that the CWT indicator range, upon which the autospot function is
based, is only about 200 Hz wide. In 100 Hz step mode, you'd have to be
less than 1 step away from zero beat for the function to work.

Alan,
Check that you have the coupler connected in the right direction when you
have it on the KPA500. From your description, it sounds like it is
connected backwards.

Alan, do you have the coupler oriented correctly with the TRANSMITTER end
connected to the KPA500 and the LOAD connected to the antenna. It sounds
like you have it backwards so the W2 is reading the reflected power as
forward (20-30 watts) and the forward power as reflected which would
