[Elecraft] KX3 Dual Watch

Good morning, The KX3 has a nice Dual Watch feature. It is however, of limited use when the DX is weak and the callers are strong (a common case here). To overcome this problem I have build a simple two channels audio amplifier with 2 LM380N (Manhattan style) with independent volumn controls.

My station has a relay system for switching the headphones between two different radios, among other things. I had to add isolation transformers for the same reason the K3 has them on the line outputs. The loss in the transformers reduces the audio level too much for the rear panel headphone

I agree but in the case of using two radios, two pair of headphones, a switching system and getting hum indicates a serious deficiency in the station interconnection and ground scheme. Everything should be at the same potential, thus no current would flow.   As they say "sum-tin not right".

James, As  a long time KPA500 and KAT500 user, I've never seen the need for any such connection between the rig and the amp. All it takes is a dit or a tap on the mic, and the both are ready to go. The only connections that ARE required is the pull to ground to put the amp in TX mode that

Hi Dave I had an SPE 1.5KFA for a few months. I have also owned a KPA500 for around 4 or 5 years. Despite the publicity blurb that says the SPE QSK is silent, it isn't. The relay is quite noisy - at least if you are used to the totally silent KPA500. It is also difficult to control power wise.

I have searched the manual etc. and cant find a way of setting the band edges. By which I mean the frequencies outside of which the transmitter will not function. Here in Europe (as elsewhere I believe) different countries have different band edges - this is particularly so for the 5MHz band.
