Dear Elecrafters,
I am very late to the party. For various reasons I have been QRT for a few
years and I'm just now getting back on the air. I'm still using a paper log,
and QRP CW is my 'thing'.
My rig is a K3, serial no. in the 7000's. I have the KUSB cable, which I have
only used to update
Hi Paul,
Yes, that USB cable will work just fine for rig control. You will want
some sort of audio interface. The Signalink is well advertised, but not
a great product nor value for the money. There's a piece on my website
about some very good interfaces from the world of pro audio. Some of

A wise observation I learned during the Apollo missions in the late 60's
was, "Regardless of how reliable parts are, put enough on the rocket and
something will always be broken." You don't really need much of an
"interface" between computer and radio. In many cases, they're just
more black
Regardless of your personal opinion and over-reaction (IMO), Mr. Isaacs'
post was in extremely poor taste. And I'm in the exact same demographic
you're in.

I really don't know what the big deal is about Signalink. I have a non-USB
K3 and have used it for FT8 as well as SSB contesting with just the
internal sound card of my computer for over 15 years. I have also used
inexpensive ($10) external USB sound cards when the internal sound card
doesn't

I agree. It’s like on air: no politics, no religion.
(BTW: I myself never feel offended when in a QSO or a face-to-face conversation
in english somebody raises his eyebrows or makes a joke due to my funny kraut
accent – but YMMV.)

One other thing. By all means, get into computer logging. MANY reasons
to do so, including easy interface with LOTW. Like you, I've always been
primarily a CW op, work some QRP, but also do lots

My advice would be to forget W altogether. They may think they’re agents for
Elecraft, but they have little or no stock of anything new. They don’t even
advertise the K4 any more and unless they suddenly found a competent engineer
and bought suitable test equipment, they cannot honour warranty

I too had thought about snatching up a KX3 just to
