Maybe someone could convince TenTec to release the firmware as open source,
and allow amateurs to experiment with the radio. Just a thought...

The information regarding Argonaut V is incorrect.
Ten Tec has just finished another production run of these fine radios. A new
firmware version is available.
Their firmware IS available for programmers to enable radio control from a
pc.

The current generation of control software and logging software do not work
together well. I use N3FJP for logging. Using a control program would make
it impossible to gather data into N3FJP's program. A hardware remote would
not have this problem.

As the design of the K2 is pretty modular I do not see any reason why it
would not be possible to mount a K2 inside a larger box and add a direct

I don't see the new firmware on the official Ten-Tec firmware update site.
Where is it?
As of 5 mins ago the rfsquared website is showing ver 1.07 dated 6/25/2003.
My statement was based upon an e-mail directly from Ten-Tec where they
stated that they consider the Argonaut a finished project,
During a very light rain, with no accompanying lighting, there can be static
charge build up on an antenna.
I've seen sparks about 1/4 inch across a ground switch that wasn't quite
closed.
Also, wind alone can build up a static charge.
Rolling or unrolling coax can generate a static charge. I

Has anyone tried placing the 5.6k resistor for the MD2 microphone into the
plug or into the microphone itself (rather than into the K2)?
I've done this with the hand mic with success, but the MD2 plug seems a lot
more crowded and a few pins have heat shrink, which I'd rather not remove.

Just my 2 cents on touch screens- I work with AMX touch screens for

can put any kind of buttons and labels

Howard, I have used the MFJ and like it a lot, however, for me the choice

As usual, Don's advice is excellent. I would add that you should check
to see if there might be a short between pins on one (or more) of the
switches or traces connecting to them. It is EASY to accidentally

Jeff,
Let me offer one more option.
Put a 1.2k resistor in parallel with the 5.6k when (and only when) the mic
containing the preamp and HC5 is plugged in.
Here is how to do that easily: Solder the 5.6k resistor on the mic jack
between pins 1 and 6 as instructed for the MD2, then solder a
