Hello all,
I received K2 #5000 in the mail this week. Now I need to finish up a
few other projects before I can dig in to the kit. This is going to be
fun!!

Thanks everyone. Dummy load is attached and practice has commenced.

It would have done the same with an analog meter, Tom. The circuit you were
probing undoubtedly contained semiconductors (ICs, transistors, diodes,
etc.), not just pure resistors. With the leads one way, the internal battery
in the DMM causes some of those semiconductor junctions to be forward
I spend hours on the computer doing e-mail, work, and creative tasks.
This cuts into my on-air time, so I put a QRP rig right beside the
computer. This allows me to check the bands once in awhile and keep my
CW skills sharp while taking my mind off the computer. I typically turn

Why is it not suited on a deck?

Because it relies on capacitive coupling to ground to form the
other half of your antenna. It could be used on a deck simply
as a mount but then you would have to attach some sort of
tuned counterpoise to it.
I had my K2 off to replace a defective headphone jack and
when I powered it back on, I decided to track how far off
freq the rig was and how long it would take to warm up to
spec. I used Spectran and measured WWV's carrier in USB

Oh yes.
In the Koch method (I think that's the right one), you learn a few letters
and then work up. So you might learn I and e and then practice them
until you get very good.
