When I did it about a year ago I used HRD plus a toggle on the appropriate
interface line on the DB15 plug to power on and off the K3. I used a relay
controlled by USB.
There are plenty of interfaces available, all you need to do is write some
simple code in C++. Many of the EBay interfaces

I'm using phones. It doesn't sound quite like the usual feedback squeal.
It's modulated, sorta like rolling the 'r's in burrito.

Mike,
Since you are using phones, do not overlook the possibility of RF
Feedback. If the problem goes away when driving a dummy load (or using
TX TEST) but is present feeding an antenna, RF feedback is the first
thing to be suspicious of. The normal best cure for RF Feedback is in

I had same thing here. If you have MAIN:MIC+LIN set to ON, try turning
it OFF or unplugging the Line In. That fixed my problem, but I haven't
determined why Line In is causing that problem.

I forgot to mention that it is NOT RF here, 'cuz it happens in TEST

Thanks... I apparently did have a sneak path. I opened the Playback
Control on the sound card (SB Live! 24 bit) and muted the Mic and Line
In (to the sound card) and that fixed the problem with the MIC+LIN set ON.
Thanks, Mark, for the hint. I really wasn't that concerned 'cuz I rarely

Mike,
I had the same thing happen to me. Unfortunately, I didn't read your post in
time to respond. The K3 audio menu settings are per mode. When I switched to
AM, I had the rear panel mic enabled and the MIC+LIN turned ON. When I turned
MIC+LIN OFF the feedback went away. The operation of
I produced a little utility to control the K8055 card if anyone is
interested. The card comes with a simple control program anyway but I wanted
to label the buttons and allow configurations to be memorised.

Frank,
I am unable to fully understand your e-mail. I use a K9AY with my K3
for 160 Meters and also listen with it on 80M and 40m, which are bands I am
not active on but monitor from time to time. I find the K9AY gives me an
average 15 dB front to back ratio on 160M. I have not noticed

posting a wav file on the company web site? We could listen to it on our

work! Hey... epod - now there's an interesting product idea!

The Queen's version of the pronunciation might be something like this:
Elecraft (eleˈcrɑːft).
But then again... ;-)

The K3 SHT50; command will toggle the RATE between 0.10 and 0.01
tuning. Is there are way to force the rate to 0.10. This is for use in
a Split macro sequence to allow fast tuning of a pile up with VFO B.

Maybe you have the second receiver and want to tune with VFO B, however, if you
don't have one then here's what I do rather than messing with VFO B and splits.
(I've tried the Split macro, but it's always wrong. If I program it for 1 KHz
the DX will say UP 3. It never fails)
Tune in the DX
On 11/25/09 I downloaded latest firmware, MCU 03.63 and DSP1 02.46.
While using HRD/DM780 for PSK31 I now notice the TX light stays on at
the end of a transmission. The light will not go out and the K3 will
not go into receive unless I tap, xmit, atu tune, rx ant, or ant button.
