Re: [Elecraft] What to use to turn on remotely my K3 ?
When I did it about a year ago I used HRD plus a toggle on the appropriate interface line on the DB15 plug to power on and off the K3. I used a relay controlled by USB. There are plenty of interfaces available, all you need to do is write some simple code in C++. Many of the EBay interfaces come with limited software but they frequently use the HID interface so you can write your own control software. If you don't want to write code try and find one supported by amateur radio software, these tend to cost more. If you want to go that way look at the LP Remote. The Modtronix Ethernet boards are very good for remote control as you have a web interface and can also monitor voltages etc. It means you do not need a PC left on and if your PC crashes you can reset it with a relay across the reset switch. WW2R has written code to control his, mine is still in the projects stack. Velemann do a popular USB interface kit, the K8055 for about £25. This requires a PC to drive it but you get 4 relays and plenty of digital and analogue IO ports. Many people have written software for this unit, me included. The kit comes with a disk with sample code and a DLL to interface to. Finally, there is always the PC printer port, if you have one. It is the simplest and lowest cost method and you can drive it directly from popular radio control software. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Monitor feedback
Mike, Since you are using phones, do not overlook the possibility of RF Feedback. If the problem goes away when driving a dummy load (or using TX TEST) but is present feeding an antenna, RF feedback is the first thing to be suspicious of. The normal best cure for RF Feedback is in the antenna system rather than trying to put ferrites on everything in the shack. 73, Don W3FPR Mike wrote: Don - I'm using phones. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Monitor feedback
Mike, I had the same thing happen to me. Unfortunately, I didn't read your post in time to respond. The K3 audio menu settings are per mode. When I switched to AM, I had the rear panel mic enabled and the MIC+LIN turned ON. When I turned MIC+LIN OFF the feedback went away. The operation of this menu function wasn't exactly clear to me so I had set it up the way I thought it should be for all modes (SSB, AM, PSK and FSK). Re: [Elecraft] K3 Rx Antenne K9AY
Frank, I am unable to fully understand your e-mail. I use a K9AY with my K3 for 160 Meters and also listen with it on 80M and 40m, which are bands I am not active on but monitor from time to time. I find the K9AY gives me an average 15 dB front to back ratio on 160M. I have not noticed too much of an improvement in Signal to Noise Ratio but the antenna is a great help in contests when working the western hemisphere as it attenuates our fellow EU stations. I also use it in listening to stations in other directions and find the front to back a help. As I live in a rural location it may be that the improvement in SNR is not as great as it would be in a more built up area. You need the converter board in your K3 to have a separate receiver input. I assume you have this. You may need a good separation between TX and RX antennas to use the K9AY for break in operation. In my case the separation is 60 M and I have no problems. Hope you find the K9AY works well for you. If you have any further problems perhaps you might try to better explain them. All the best with luck I will work you in CQWW this weekend. That is if I can get my inverted L up and running. [Elecraft] K3 Tuning Rate Macro
The K3 SHT50; command will toggle the RATE between 0.10 and 0.01 tuning. Is there are way to force the rate to 0.10. This is for use in a Split macro sequence to allow fast tuning of a pile up with VFO B. Thanks! Re: [Elecraft] K3 Tuning Rate Macro
Maybe you have the second receiver and want to tune with VFO B, however, if you don't have one then here's what I do rather than messing with VFO B and splits. (I've tried the Split macro, but it's always wrong. If I program it for 1 KHz the DX will say UP 3. It never fails) Tune in the DX with VFO A. Lock the frequency then if the DX says, Up one, turn on XIT and dial in +1.0. If you want a faster tuning rate toggle the Fine/Coarse. If you want to hear what's going on on your transmit frequency, tap RIT. If the frequency is cluttered and you want to move a little, tune with the RIT/XIT knob, then press RIT again to turn it off and you're listening to the DX frequency again but transmitting on your newly found clear spot (Hi). If this fails, QRO. --- On Thu, 11/26/09, Steve Lawrence wb6r...@mac.com wrote: The K3 SHT50; command will toggle the RATE between 0.10 and 0.01 tuning. Is there are way to force the rate to 0.10. [Elecraft] K3 TX light on
On 11/25/09 I downloaded latest firmware, MCU 03.63 and DSP1 02.46. While using HRD/DM780 for PSK31 I now notice the TX light stays on at the end of a transmission. The light will not go out and the K3 will not go into receive unless I tap, xmit, atu tune, rx ant, or ant button. When using version 3.44 beta release and same setup all was well. Has something changed in the new firmware that I need to reset or did I do something that would cause this?
