IT sounds like you're having a problem with the radio overheating and shutting down. FT8 and other digital modes like it have VERY long duty cycles, so the radio gets hot very fast. If the cooling can't keep up, the radio shuts down to protect itself. Reduce your RF power and see if it helps. If

In the "good old days" key shaping was done simply by adding a capacitor to the key line or equivalent. That results in an exponential rise and/or fall time, which is not optimum, so the time constant had to be set pretty slow to avoid key clicks. Typically 5-10 ms. 10 ms results in "mushy"
