I have used the Heil Pro 7 also. While they displayed no RFI issues, they fall far behind the Bose QC35s, Radiosport, and even Bose QC25s in keeping out KPA1500 fan noise. They worked FB for me in the CQWW SSB test, where the KPA1500 fans rarely turn on, and never get louder than FAN1 at my

[Elecraft] K3 issue

My k3 keeps losing its mind. One day it won't transmit SSB - I can whistle up 100W but speech gives 5W of avg and ~15W peak. On another day it says "KAT500 not turned ON". I have a KPA500 but no KAT500. My fix for both these has been to do a factory reset and reload my last saved configuration --

Eric, The schematic for the KXV3B-2 BNC Board shows a COR and associated RF detector circuitry for the RX ANT IN port. There is also a protective spark gap on that input, presumably for lightning induced voltages on the RX antenna. I haven't checked the K3s manual, but the RF detector circuit

Dave, Being a little 'tongue in cheek' the answer is -- That depends on what you mean by "good"! Seriously, the fact that you can turn it on and off in the menu only means that there is a response from the KIO2 when it is communicating with the MCU over the AUXBUS line. I would suspect the

I agree.  I had a strike zap the KIO3 in my K3 because even though all my other gear was unplugged at the time, my laptop (which interfaces to my K3) wasn't.   at first thought it was the KUSB.  I bought a second one figuring it wouldn't hurt to have a spare if the cable turned out to not be

I had a lightning strike and am getting things back together. I am attempting to connect via a KUSB cable with a series adapter to make it a proper cable for the K2. The PORT menus says the port is ON and I can turn it ON and OFF as outlined in the manual. Prior to the strike, this same radio

Bill, That was why Elecraft released MCU 2.04r which is exactly the same as 2.04P, but the sidetone source is locked at U8-4. That can happen if someone EDITs the ST-L menu and then taps the DISPLAY button without exiting the menu first. Many hours of support time had been spent on the "I lost

Bill, In the KPA100, the normal Vss is about -25 volts, so suspect that something may be loading that negative supply. Pull U4 out and measure that voltage again.  If it is still not negative enough, you may have  a problem in the T/R switch.  Check for 90 to 150 volts on the highest voltage

Alright, I have figured this out. I’m not sure why I was seeing Vss of -5 volts. I re-checked the negative supply on the KPA100, flowed the solder on D7 and D8. After that, I was seeing almost -24 volts at the Vss pin, without U4 in place. With U4 connected and everything hooked up, Vss was
