Hi -
My K2 has a 160m option as well as the SSB Option. On all bands, 80 - 10m I
get good SSB transmission. Using a dummy load and watt meter I can see the
SSB transmission is stable and varies between dips of 4-5 watts up to peaks
of 13 watts (I'm not using the 100W PA).
This is not the case

Hi Don,
I doubt there is any problem on the watt meter as it's working fine on other
radios for 160m.
Another reason I suspect it is a K2 issue is because the K2 bar graph LED
hardly lights on 160m SSB Tx, whereas on 80m and up I can easily get 4 or 5
bars with normal LSB speech on Tx. It's
I have two K2s, and I find on one of them that the sensitivity is much lower.
I see this when doing a test with an XG1 signal generator.
The problem is that the low sensitivity rig is one that I bought built,
while the one that works fine is a rig I built myself. I have tried to
reallign the rig,
Thanks for the replies. I can try to answer as follows:
The good rig is in the 3800 series, and has:
KDSP2, KAT2, KBT2, KSB2, KNB1, K160RX, KIO2
The weak rig is 5900 series and has:
KAF2, KPA100, KSB2, KNB1, K160RX, KIO2
I have used spectogram, but not for the 5900 series rig.
I did a quick
Hi,
Some time ago I purchased a KX3.
It is fitted with the battery pack and I have always used rechargeable AA
cells.
I have the following situation...
The radio turns on but after 2 seconds shuts down.
I have checked all cells and they are good 1.18 V.
The radio works fine when standard
Sorry for the off-topic posting, but maybe someone has an easy answer here.
When looking at the KX3 topics, the latest I see is from mid 2017. When I go
to the Main Board and select List by Topics, then I see all the topics
including those for 2018. The problem is it includes all the other forms
Hi,
Just a follow-up.
Put in a new set of NiMh cells and all seems OK. Use of NiMh seems to be a
discussion issue, but over here in Denmark we have a limited range at
reasonable prices. We don't have all the brands and types as in USA.
At least it is working. Thanks to all for their input.
Hi,
I've probabaly seen this discussed before, but can't remember ...
I have noticed that the power output on my K2 differs from measures PEP going
to the antenna. Mostly it displays between 14.8and 15.2.
However, when measuring with a wattmeter and dummy load I notice that on 18m I
get 18W
Hi and thanks for the answers so far,
To give a bit more detail...
I'm not using any antenna tuner in my K2, it's the basic K2 with SSB module
and battery pack, but for the power out measurements I'm using a DC PSU.
I've set the K2 to CW and keyed the microphone, with the Power turned full
Hi,
I'm wondering is anyone has some pointers as to how to select K3 roofing
filters for SSB? With the amount of filters available, what would be a correct
set for SSB?
thanks and 73

Hi -
Another day another challenge.
I have recently installed the 160m module and the 20 W ATU in my K2.
Now I discover the Noise Blanker gives very strong pulse when I click Display
and go into the DSP settings ... like on 14 Mhz is it most strong when I
display S1 nr nt.
Pulses are at
Dave -
The problem is that's it's not a one-off pulse - I mean it goes on and on
and on ...
Is that expected?

Hi,
I have noticed that when tuning my K2 up to 14358 I hit a spike and then hear a
continuous tone all the way to to 14363 - yes it's out of band, but it is there.
I also have this spike at regular intervales, for example 14338, 14348, 14358
and then 14363, 14368, 14373 etc. Fortunately it is
Hi,
I have also recently built this unit and the only way I could test it was by
scratching the antenna input with a metal object. I can hear that it removes
the 'clicks' out of the peaks, but I have not been able to test it against real
pulse noise. Whatever else I have tried hasn't seemed to
Hi,
I have recently built a KDSP2 and was left wondering what a good setting is for
the SSB Gain (Sg). I mean I can try various settings, but perhaps someone has
found a good settings?
thanks
