Re: [Elecraft] Hub4Com
Hub4Com binaries are available with a little snooping around in the com0com sourceforge location:https://sourceforge.net/projects/com0com/files/hub4com/2.1.0.0/ It's a strategy for sourceforge to make it difficult to find things -- they want you to click on other things and view as many pages as possible. Since they host things for free, it's one of ways they can make money to keep the servers on. -Brian N9ADG On Friday, March 8, 2019, 3:38:17 PM PST, Fred Jensen wrote: You're not missing anything ... except the .exe [:-) Public license software is often distributed as source code because there are so many OS distributions and hardware configurations out there. [Elecraft] TX_INH input (pin 7 on ACC) behavior
With my early K3, I'm attempting to control the TX_INH line on the ACC Connector, and am finding this odd (to me) behavior. Starting with the radio off, I'm driving the pin with either 0 or 5v through a 6.6K resistor per the Elecraft manual. I set the TX_INH mode to HI in the config screen, and even with the line NOT driven, TX_INH is indicated by the flashing TX in the display. If I get out my Fluke VOM, I see that there's around 0.2v measured at pin 7... BUT THEN THE TX INHIBIT goes off (that is, it starts working as described in the manual)? Is the TX_INH line floated in the radio? Do I need to also "pull down" this line to ground through a suitable high-value resistor? Adding a 470K ohm to ground seems to make everything happy. If this is expected behavior (requiring pull down as well as pull up), perhaps this could be mentioned in the manual in the future (maybe it only matters to my era of K3 radio -- #512) What makes this a little more difficult to debug is that after the line has been measured with the meter, causing it to work, TX_INH sometimes continues to work (High=inhibit, LO=tx). Until I power cycle the radio. Anyone who has done this before have any insight?thanks,-Brian N9ADG __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] Macro for K3/K3s and FT8?
When plucking a particular station out on FT8, something that would be useful in the increasingly crowded segment conditions would be to have the radio's filters narrow the passband to just a particular width at a particular frequency (and then go back to a much wider bandwidth at particular times). I see that the IS and FW (or BW, recommended by the K3 programmer's manual) can do this -- has anyone developed a macro like this for this application? Example: FT8 on 20m uses the dial frequency of 14074.00, USB. If I'm trying to hear a station at 1800Hz, I'd like to narrow my RX passband to be between 14075.77 and 14076.10 (ft8 bw is 50Hz). But also want to go back to a 2.4 kHz bandwidth. I might also want to transmit outside the parameters of my RX passband, e.g. in this example, I might transmit tones from 800-850 Hz. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] K1 Front Panel Assembly: Potentiometer shaft doesn't fit
I'm in the middle of assembling a K1, and have gotten to the front panel final assembly. The Potentiometer (type labeled 1-2-3) that I have has a threaded shaft that is too large of diameter to fit the K1's front panel. What's the best way to enlarge the hole to preserve the nice new paint?Or is there something else that I'm missing? I have Googled for this, however nothing in the first page of results seems to mention this issue. Thanks, Brian N9ADG __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] Flashing TX - sort of fixed
I'm not sure I "solved" it, but here's how I got the flashing TX to stop. Again, this is with a K3S, fw 5.50. Nothing attached to the rear panel, especially the ACC connector. LCD TX was constantly flashing. Went into Config: TX Inh, which was set to Inh=LO. set Inh=Off. Flashing TX stopped, TX functionality restored.. Went back into Config: TX inh, and set it to Inh=LO again. The Flashing TX did NOT re-occur. TX functions. Seems like there was some sort of TX Inh latch state that was cleared by turning TX Inh off or on. Re-cabling the K3S, and no problems so far -- Our ACC cable has a 1K resistor to +5v on pin 10 (tx_inh). That is now being obeyed again. -Brian N9ADG __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] Always Flashing TX on K3S on power up
I'm getting an always-flashing TX on the LCD about 3 seconds after I power up our K3S; I'm running firmware 5.50 (though it was happening with 5.38). There are no "PTT ERR" or "KEY ERR" messages displayed on power up. The ONLY connections on the rear panel are Antenna and Power -- Nothing plugged into USB, Nothing into ACC, Nothing plugged into PTT. The Config: PTT-KEY is set to Off/Off. There is nothing plugged into the mic jack on the front panel. Pressing the Test button on the front panel doesn't clear this mode to NORM. It doesn't matter what mode the radio is in, the LCD TX indicator just keeps flashing. Anyone have any ideas ? I will call Elecraft tomorrow, but thought perhaps someone would recognize this ...Thanks!-Brian N9ADG __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] KIO3B Serial Port (RJ45) pinout
I'm trying to find documentation for the KIO3B Serial Port Pinout -- this is the RJ45 jack that is on the back panel. I've checked the K3S manual, and the KIO3B module installation documentation, but neither seem to show it. Can anyone point me to this documentation? thanks, Brian N9ADG __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K3 Test Mode -> Rear Panel PTT
I noticed that if I put the radio into Test mode, PTT on the front panel does 'mock key the radio' and illuminate the TX light. However, if I ground the TX line into the rear panel in Test mode, it's ignored. I didn't see this in the manual, nor did googling for "elecraft K3 test mode rear PTT" yield anything useful. Others might get stumped on this one as I was for a bit, thinking that my PTT line was amiss. Is this a bug? If not, can it be documented? Could it be a setting in a future firmware version?thanks,Brian N9ADG __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Re: [Elecraft] MMTTY DATA-A or FSK
We used two K3s for a M/2 in last weeks's contest, and did over 2000 Q's; I second the N1MM / FSK recommendation, as there are few variables to manage if I don't have to worry about TX levels. Also, it's definitely an opinion, but on the receive side, I personally dislike seeing other ops using ENTERLFs in macros during contests, as it can lead to chasing the information up the screen on the receive side. It's possible to click on a call in the MMTTY receive window to get it to enter into the logger using N1MM/MMTTY, which is one of the nice features. With ENTERLF printing, if one clicks a fraction of a second too late, the information has scrolled. A couple of spaces (double bag!) can do the job of resetting the decoder to letters instead. Don't even get me started on unusual exchanges. A long exchange that's different from everyone else e.g. PLEASE COPY 5NN CALIFORNIA CALIFORNIA BTU instead of 599 03 CA isn't doing you any favor. Don't forget the K3 has a built-in data decoder, for an additional vote on what the other station sent, if MMTTY and 2-Tone aren't enough.
