Sorry,
That was a quick shot due to a false alarm - I had not put on my reading

cm...for shame.

Thanks Tom, interesting to know.

*When troubleshooting it would still be of great help to know how the KX2

[Elecraft] KX2 sluggish/intermittent VFO display

2020-04-18 Thread Heinz Baertschi
A colleague's KX2 has had the following symptom several times after approx. 2
hours of portable operation at ambient temperatures of approx. 20-25 °C and
locations in the shade or in the sun:

Sluggish and intermittent VFO display when dialling to a new frequency. The
selected frequency then appeared correctly after approx. 0.5-1.5 seconds.

Has anyone noticed the same symptom and if so, what had to be done to fix
it?

Any help would be appreciated?

Don, Mark,

That are good news, thanks.
As I have no XVTRs connected to this K2 the 2 RCAs for XVTR IN and XVTR OUT
are for free disposal, fortunately. So one of these 2 RCAs is already taken
for the output from the Clifton Labs 1 IF Buffer Amplifier (connected to
a P3) and the other is well suited to be used for the PA KEY line.

[Elecraft] [K2] T-R Driver Circuit to key KXPA100

What kind of T-R keying circuit is necessary in the K2 (with K60XV installed

a) Will the XVTR Keyline on K60XV J2-2 / Q3 (2N7000) do it correctly?

Hi Don and Leif@LA3ZH,

Thanks for clarification!

The question arised since I had not considered this matter before 01.01.2017
(no allocation in HB9) and now by reading this:
http://www.elecraft.com/Apps/k2on60.htm
The technical imperfections explicitly mentioned by this document are no
longer explicitly addressed by the actual K60XV manual - so, was not sure if
still valid or obsolete.

So there seems to be no reason not to add 60m to my very proven band
monitoring station (K2/P3/7.5m active loop).

[Elecraft] K2 on 60m (K60XV)

2017-01-18 Thread Heinz Baertschi
Based on the fact that the K2 has 5 BPF and LPF only to cover 9 bands I
wonder

1) if/to what extent the RX performance on the existing bands is influenced
by the addition of the 60m band (K60XV)?

2) what RX performance can be expected on 60m (compared to the K2 standard
bands)?

I am currently busy assigning the K3 commands/macros to the KPOD switches and

Sorry if this question has been asked and answered before.

control the band +/- buttons?

In response to my post I received some e-mail, all proposing to use an
external pad (e.g. from www.genovation.com).
Unfortunately all these external solutions are very impractical for portable
use in the field (e.g. SOTA).
May be these proposals were triggered in this direction by the name KX-Pod
used, hi.

Let me therefore clarify my wish as follows:
I would rather prefer a CONTROL BAR, e.g. L7xW3xH2cm
- attachable in place of the KXPD3
- 10 programmable push buttons in 2 lines (style KX3)
- designation e.g. F1..F10 (short press) and M1..M10 (long press)
- without a tuning knob
- integrated touch pad, e.g. similar http://hamshop.cz/data/items/182_65.pdf
- set of sensor "paddles" at the left AND right side of the Control Bar
- sensor "paddles" fully integrated: no protruding parts!
- control cable to ACCx as short/clever/hidden as possible
- as lightweight and watertight as possible

Not at all, I never noticed the so-called dit Problem.
Using an early (upgraded) and a late KXPD3, both with the light(est) spring.

Both paddles functioned flawless last year on over 100 SOTA expeditions
(more than 6000 QSOs).
The contacts become intermittent during the winter months (temp around 0C,
sometimes foggy).
Dry cleaning the contacts did always help for some time.

The KXPD3 has become my paddle of choice for SOTA through it's reliability
(simplicity, robustness) and it's suitability for use also on higher keying
Speeds.

That is why I am exploring an improvement.

[Elecraft] P3SVGA Disappointing text display !?

2012-10-30 Thread Heinz Baertschi
Did I overlook something or is this normal?

The PSK31 and RTTY text decoded by the K3 appears without any structure ON
THE EXTERNAL MONITOR connected to the P3SVGA option.
It looks like the K3 text decode function simply replaces CR/LF characters
by SPACE (maybe ok for VFO B text display).
This makes the nice structured text of a QSO very hard readable or - in
other words - far away from what I did expect!

Just to be complete: Actual F/W versions, Acer LCD G226HQL, same result with
different P3SVGA RX/TX window sizes and with all P3SVGA display resolutions.

 ...
It would be nice if the experts at Elecraft could work into the K3/P3
firmware so that we could monitor the transmit audio instead of the P3
 just
 freezing!!!

 Thank you,

[Elecraft] P3 Display freeze during CW Message Play

2012-01-22 Thread Heinz Baertschi
Sorry if this problem has been reported/discussed earlier.

Problem: Playing CW messages from K3/Mx freezes the P3 display until a
message has been sent.

Any help?

[Elecraft] [P3] Display freeze during CW keying

2012-01-22 Thread Heinz Baertschi
I wonder why ELECRAFT has choosen a different design approach to mute the K3
IF signal to the P3:

K3 internal keying (by paddel jack or by M1-M8):
IF signal is fully muted (P3 display freezed)
-- allows no monitoring of spectrum and transmitted signal while keying
-- P3 diplay does not support QSK

K3 external keying (by key jack):
IF signal is muted only during dotsdashes
-- allows monitoring of spectrum and transmitted signal while keying
-- P3 diplay does support QSK (which I do appreciate).

Re: [Elecraft] K24U Software

2012-01-06 Thread Heinz Baertschi
Dan,

I can reproduce the error messages stated by simply configuring K2 PORT=OFF.
So if your K2 serial Port is set to ON, make sure the K2 to Computer Cable
Assembly is correct (e.g. as in KIO2 Manual, Figure 7).
CAUTION: Do not use a pre-assembled cable of any kind (printer cable, etc.)
between the KIO2 and a computer.

Sorry if this topic has been discussed earlier.

What about a new P3 menu entry allowing to select frequency scale
lines/markings (similar to the menu Lvl Lines plus on/off)?
