[Elecraft] Fwd: Headphones

2022-11-03 Thread John Evans
Neil,

I'm glad you took this discussion in this direction. I, too, wear BTE
aids and though I spend most time on CW, from time to time it is nice to
work SSB. The chat here has got me thinking how I might use my Sennheiser
headphones with foam pads as they are wonderful for music at least. They
don't block out background noise but they are very comfortable. All I'd
need to do is add a mic and I'd be good to go. I'm looking at the Grado
Sr's right now so that could be an option.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3, KXPA100 setup with Win4K3 Suite question

2021-12-27 Thread John Evans

Hi Don,

Thanks for the recommendations and comments.  Both the KXPA utility
and the KX3 utility communicate fine with my hardware setup.  I'm
guessing the WIn4K3 Suite does not properly communicate with both
devices through one com port.  I'll see if I can post on their groups.io
forum and see what they may have to say.

Thanks es 73 - john - n0hj

John,

Only one KXUSB is needed.  The other is just a TRS to TRS cable.
The KXUSB cable must connect first between the KXPA100 and the PC.
The second cable between the KXPA100 and the KX3.

If connected that way, everything should work.
See if both the KXPA100 Utility and the KX3 Utility will connect
properly.

I don't know what Win4K3 suite does in its routing.

[Elecraft] KX3, KXPA100 setup with Win4K3 Suite question

2021-12-27 Thread John Evans

Greetings,

Has anyone using Win4K3 Suite with a KX3 and KXPA100 been able to get
the KXPA100 to show up in the Controller menu ?  Is another KXUSB cable
required?  How is your system all connected?  Is this even necessary or
even possible ?  I have my KXPA100 and KX3 connected as diagrammed in
the manual(s) and I see no way to create another KXUSB connection at
all.  If you have this config working, I'd appreciate some direction.

Looking for guidance - thanks in advance,

[Elecraft] KX3 Transmit Bias cal procedure question

2021-02-12 Thread John Evans
This is a resend since I did not see any response to my question the
first go around.

Greetings,

I'm going through the cal procedure for transmit bias.  Once I tap

between .04-.06 A but it never seems to complete.  Am I supposed to
cancel by hitting XMIT again or am I supposed to wait ?  Any guidance

[Elecraft] Kx3 and KXPA100 without PX3 while using a computer pan adapter

2021-02-04 Thread John Evans
Greetings all,

I’ve been using HDSDR with Omin-Rig with a Xiegu G90 and was able to get
the panadapter setup working with my KX3 by itself. Now I want to add my
KXPA100 into the setup and am wondering how the cabling should be
configured.

I have my computer connected from the KX3 ACC1 port through the KXUSB
cable to my computer. I also have the KX3 RX I/Q port connected through a
USB sound card to my computer. All seems to be well in this configuration.

Looking at the KX3 manual and Cady’s The Elecraft KX-Line book, it seems
that I would connect the amp through the KXPACBL control cable. This
hookup looks like I need to connect both the ACC1 and ACC2 end of the
control cable to those ports on the KX3. Do I just let the ACC1 end of the
control cable dangle? Is anyone else running a similar setup that can
provide some insight?

  Thanks in advance

Re: [Elecraft] PX3 & thumb drive...

2018-02-25 Thread John Evans
One thing you might try is use Windows disk management in the
administrative tools section of control to partition the large thumb
drive with a first fat32 partition that is 2 or 4 GB - if your whole
drive is fat32 you should just be able to shrink it down to a size that
may work.  If it isn't fat32, delete the partition and create a smaller
partition that is.  Then you can create a 2nd or more partitions after
that one for NTFS or whatever.

I had an issue where a thumb drive was needed to upgrade firmware in an
Agilent digital scope but we didn't have appropriate thumb drives, so I
took a 1 TB USB spinning hard drive and partitioned with the first
partition being a small fat32 partition with the firmware cab file and
it worked great.

If you try this and it works, please let us know.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 - am I locked into a specific microcode level

2016-09-23 Thread John Evans
Why are we using the term microcode here? When I think of microcode, I
think of the code within a cpu that takes the machine code from outside
the processor and turns it into the signals that move and manipulate the
data within the processor, turning on and off registers and paths. When
I think of firmware within a device such as an SDR, I am still thinking
along the lines of machine code that is outside of some processor.

[Elecraft] For Sale - handled/rackmount brackets/panels for K2

Greetings,

A long time ago, someone manufactured and offered a pair of
unfinished aluminum side brackets/panels for the K2 for those of us who
wanted to replace them with something with handles much like rack mount
equipment would have. I purchased these but do not know who made/sold
them. If anyone would have a need for these, I offer them up in the US
for $18.00 shipped in a padded mailer. The two side panels are drilled
for the mounting holes similar to the K2 side panels and includes a set
of screws.

That is threaded for 6-32. Since you are apparently going to put a

extend inside any further than the depth of the threads. If the screw
tip overlaps the edge of the board, it will damage a PC trace that is
quite close to the edge of the board just below the key jack. I have
repaired several where that happened. The usual symptom of that
damage is that the KX1 goes into transmit as soon as power is applied.
