Re: [Elecraft] K3 audio problem

2022-07-13 Thread Keith Trinity WE6R

Hi Chris;
I would stop using the radio immediately!
Sounds like the main audio chip U1 on the DSP board is going out.
When they fail, you can get a HI CUR warning because they are shorting out.
They can heat to the point of destroying the DSP board (which we don't
have anymore).

[Elecraft] K3 audio problem

2022-07-10 Thread Chris Meagher
Hi I have a strange problem with my K3/100.
The audio through the internal speaker is low, but comes up
much stronger with any slight movement of the volume knob.
Then it goes back down again, often accompanied by a brief
HI-CUR warning.
Also when AGC is turned off, audio is almost zero.

But, with the SP3 external speaker plugged in, the problem goes away!
Any insights much appreciated.

[Elecraft] K3 audio problem

2018-11-05 Thread Thomas Doligalski via Elecraft
This weekend I suddenly began to have an oscillation problem in the speaker amp
of my K3 (SN 969)) Headphones and the RX both work fine. I don’t hear the
strange audio oscillation in the headphones), but the speaker amp appears to be
having problems. If I turn on the speaker using SPKR+PH YES I don’t hear the RX
audio in it (although the headphones continue to work.

Any clues how to proceed?

Thanks!

[Elecraft] K3 audio problem at T2T

2011-11-14 Thread Garry Shapiro
Just spoke to VK4FW at T2T. One of their K3's works on CW but has died
on SSB. Bill says they disconnected all cables, set all settings to
match another K3 that is working on SSB, checked the microphone routing
on the Main Menu and of course swapped out headsets. No joy. They are
frantic to get it working and are at this moment on 24945 SSB listening
5 up. If any of the Brain Trust can help, please do. It's 2026Z.

I called them and worked them but was unable to make a suggestion to them that
they
download the same configuration file as used by the other K3, and re-start it.
Maybe

Re: [Elecraft] K3 audio problem at T2T

2011-11-14 Thread Greg
Garry,

I am not at home right. Using another radio's config file will probably
not work as the calibrations would be different between the two rigs.

If you can get them on the air or by email I would suggest doing the EEINIT
process and then redo the calibrations outlined in the manual (watt meter,
TX Gain, VCO CAL and Ref CAL). It should not take them more than 15-20
min. They will also have to resetup their filter settings and activate
whatever options they have in the CONFIG menu.

No guarantee this will work but considering the urgency it is probably the
first best bet to try.

Skype though good quality is a bit complicated if you just want to send
audio across a home network. I use a program called IP-Sound. It was written
by an SM amateur who no longer has a website but if you google it there is a
download link on DX Zone or one of those ham radio links websites.

If you only want to listen to receive audio and you are using Windows Remote
Desktop then I believe it is possible to set that up to relay the remote
audio to the local computer.

[Elecraft] K3 audio problem

2009-01-21 Thread k7ca
Hello,
Last night I was transmitting on 160m and using stereo headphones listening
with diversity RX and heard some unusual clicking coming from the K3 when
transmitting. I pulled the diversity RX antenna that was plugged into the 2nd
RX antenna port with no change. I pulled the RX antenna that was plugged into
the main RX ANT IN port on the KXV3 and the clicking stopped. This told me I
had too much RF coming in on my beverage antenna when transmitting. So I put
the 2nd RX antenna back on but now there was no audio output from the KRX3 sub
receiver. I'm using the sub audio knob as the balance control between the main
and sub receivers. When the sub receiver is on and the pot is counterclockwise
I get audio from the main RX in the left ear. But when clockwise there is no
output from either side. I did have stereo speakers plugged into the external
speaker port in the rear of the K3 and the spkrs were set to 2 when the problem
started. Also I haven't done the AF mod yet. W
hen I turn off the sub receiver, I get audio out of both sides. Does anyone
have an idea of what might have happened? I did fix the high RF level coming
from the beverage antenna by putting back to back diodes from the center pin of
the coax to ground. Now I can transmit with no clicking coming from the K3.
However, it would be nice to get the diversity reception back. Al CE1/K7CA

[Elecraft] K3 Audio Problem

2008-12-09 Thread BOB PHILBROOK
My DSP board failed 4 months after the kit K3 #818 was assembled.

I had no audio anywhere. The S meter showed almost full scale. The receiver
resting current went from .85 to 1.01 amps. Replacement KIO3 boards did not
cure the problem. Gary at Elecraft suggested it might be the DSP board if the
KIO3 boards did not solve the problem.

I sent the rig to Elecraft for warranty work and it was the DSP board. Great
service from Elecraft and Gary by the way.

Since the QST review of the K3/100 also had an audio failure along with a few
reported on the reflector, I wonder if there is a design/reliability problem
here?

Subject: audio problems?

Hello all, CW is working fine with K3 #716 but trying SSB there seems to be
a problem possibly related to the headset/boom mic I had been using with
other radios. If I turn the monitor up enough to hear anything in the
headsets I am getting a huge feedback through the radios speaker. This
happens whether using PTT or VOX so I don't know if the problem is operator
error, set-up error (most likely) or headset/mic problem. Just wondering if
others have had this problem and what the solution is. Perhaps the Proset
K3 would be the best solution. Another thing is that the audio gain control
has no effect on phone level when connected to the rear panel phone jack and
wondered if this is normal. TIA, de gary, kd9sv

You didn't say which brand of headset you are using.

I use a Heil Proset Plus here and had the same problem until I realized I was
leaving the speaker on when using SSB and listening to the monitor at the same
time. The feedback was due to the speaker audio getting back into the mic.

If you are not doing that, then it sounds like there is not enough audio
isolation between the head phones and the mic, or you listen to the headphones
at a high audio which is getting back into the mic.

If the audio gain has no effect on the phone audio level, then you are probably
plugged into the line out jack on the back instead of the phone jack.

Just guessing...
