Re: [Elecraft] KX1 TROUBLE ?
Puck, If the AGC is working on that KX1, it should not become less sensitive with full rotation of the RF Gain, so I suspect something is not working in the AGC circuit. If the AGC is not functioning, strong signals can overload the receiver. Motorboating can be because of the batteries - normally happens only when the batteries are near discharge. Try an external supply or brand name new alkaline batteries and see if it goes away. Don W3FPR On 4/15/2018 12:08 PM, hmmjr wrote: I recently bought a used KX1 with 4 bands and the ATU. Also I noticed a motor boating sound in the receiver which had not been there before. Touching the cabinet or moving the rig into different positions changes the the intensity of this sound. I thought perhaps battery voltage was too low so I put in a new set. There was no change. RE: [Elecraft] KX1 Trouble
Jason, Sorry to hear that you are having trouble at critical times, but that is when Murphy is most likely to strike G. Based on those symptoms, the first thing to look for is a short or low resistance to ground on the dash line. Look at the schematic and inentify those components that connect to the line, then look at the parts placement diagram to find where those parts are located and inspect each of them carefully top and bottom for whiskers of solder or anything else that may cause current to flow to ground. You could also try lifting the firmware chip partially out of the socket and re-seating it - that will usually wipe any bits of corrosion off the junction of the chip and socket pins. 73, Don W3FPR -Original Message- I was trying to operate Field Day with my KX1 this year, but quickly ran into trouble with the KX1. It seems that the paddle is stuck down, so that I constantly transmit. When it first started and I realized that I could not stop it, I assumed there was short somewhere on the paddle so I quickly disconnected it from the the KX1. That did not help, so I shut the rig off. I tried turning it back on but it was still transmitting. Next I tried to reset to the default values, by holding the Menu and Band buttons down during power up as described in the manual and that seemed to stop the transmitting. However, the BAT LO warning came on soon after, so I assumed the trouble was somehow caused by low battery voltage. Then the constant transmitting started again. I tried removing the batteries and connecting the rig to the power supply and reseting to default values again, but this time it did not stop the transmitting. I am now stuck with a KX1 that will only transmit a random series of dahs. Has anyone ran into problems like this, or know where I should start looking for trouble??? ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] KX1 Trouble Shooting Help Needed
Hello Everybody. We have reached the Alignment and Testing Part I as outlined in the manual. It was very exciting when we turned on the LED and saw that bright glow. Turning on the main power switch however was not as exciting (yet.) There was no smoke, no burning smell or warm components, but there also was no LED display. The voltage checks all came out OK Any suggestions as to where to begin ... or potential typical downfalls that we may have stumbled onto. Re: [Elecraft] KX1 Trouble Shooting Help Needed
These should be the big ones based on the schematic: Make sure U1 is oriented correctly. I would normally check the orientation of the resistor pack for the display, but it looks by the pinout that it can be reversed with no ill effect (check it anyway though, as I may be wrong). U1 is powered by U8, so I would check that U8's orientation is correct. Check for a positive voltage at the (+) terminal of C7 (not sure it is installed yet, but I think it is) when the power switch is on (the light works with the power on or off so it is no test of voltage going to the voltage regulators with the power switch on). Test of +5V at pin 20 of U1 with the power switch on. hope this helps kb3ipe dt . --- Jeff Hetherington [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello Everybody.
