Ed Price recently posted a link to a site for all MIL documents. You can
probably find it there.

Group,
Please accept my apologies for posting a reply to a message that I had
thought (incorrectly
'assumed') came via the emc-pstc listserv (I must've been seeing things -
that happens
with age).

Hi John:
Can you tell me the typical power consumption of a desktop
VDU. For example a Sun workstation VDU rating plate indicates
220-230 V 1.5A. Rather than assume or guess a power factor
value, what would the power reading (Watts) be approximately
at 220V for nornal
I would estimate the power factor for most capacitor input power supplies to
be about 0.7, so a VDU operating at 330VA would have a power consumption of
about 230W. Of course the power consumption will be higher if power factor
correction has been added to meet the harmonics emissions standard,.
Word of caution to about some labs, (not specifically pointing out a lab)
Choosing a test house or a lab to certify a product can me a costly and
timely endeavor. Coming from a previous position at a Regulatory agency, I
would like to first off say be careful when choosing a agency to certify

I am not familiar with the standard mentioned. In the past, I have used
silicone-based conformal coatings on printed circuit boards to isolate them
from the evironment. I believe GE is one of the manufacturers of these
materials.

RE: TCF'sSome additional remarks :
A TCF is to be prepared in either case. In the case where a competent body
is involved, the TCF will be co -signed by the CB.
A TCF just is the term for a compliance assessment document to a
specific apparatus, or group of apparatuses.
It describes in full

Hello Group,
Has anyone ever heard of the UL 1981 standard? Your comments will be
appreciated as I need to determine if our products comply with this standard.
Thank you

Greetings,
I was wondering if anyone out there is familiar with this standard and/or
know of a coating that can be used on PCBs to protect them from potentially
corrosive gases and airborne contaminents. The standard specifically deals
with process measurement and control systems.
Thanks,

Mark,
This is my own opinion, but it may/may not be shared by others here . . .
While I personally welcome posts from anyone who offers sound regulatory
information, especially those from laboratories (we have a few regular

who are lab managers), everyone here has been good at

That's a good question . . . but this is where the Competent Body
(that is actually the correct authority - not Notified Body),
comes in. If the 'variation' is developed after the TCF is made

David,
1. For the EU, the EMC standard is EN 60601-1-2. This standard calls out
CISPR 11 for radiated emissions, and various obsolete IEC 801 standards for
immunity. In addition, check out Clause 36 of the particular safety standard
EN 60601-2-XX (if there is one) for your specific product type.
I have a query about acceptance of test report from accredited laboratories.
Some laboratories have been accredited to test , say EN60335, with
exclusions of some clauses or sub-clauses.
In order to provide a test report showing that the unit complied with
EN60335, the laboratories request

Hi Doug:
There are four observation periods listed in para 6.2.4 of A14 (table Z1), I
assume that I only have to pick the one that suitably qualifies my
equipment's operation, or must I apply each one to determine the best period
of observation?
