I once had a Safety Engineer tell me that a class 2 transformer had opened

I have a designer who is seeking any information, IEEE standards, EMA...
about entry-less chassis. This device allows the user to swap hard drives
and other components without intrusion. This would be similar to hot swap
devices but not the same. Does anyone have a clue about any

I have a client who is trying to build a product that complies with NFPA
701, however all the materials seem to have a UL94 rating of some kind.
Does anyone know of an official cross reference between UL94 ratings and
NFPA 701? Thanks!!!

Very good response !!! The only thing that I would like to add is that
older standards like UL478 were in large based on NFPA70 (The National
Electrical Code). Now days the trend seems to be that Agencies like UL are
trying a marketing approach called one stop certification, where by
It has always been my understanding that the CE mark could be put on the
equipment by a distributor in the EU as long as the distributor has the
TIF. If this is truly the case then a product does not have to be CE
marked to enter the country or how else would it get to the distributor.
What is the date of withdrawal for Amendment 3?

You should post it in the contributed document section of the RCIC.

What is the typical cost of a safety consultant? This would include design
review, tests, test report and construction report generation for ITE
products. Thanks!!!

Hey guys I have an antique version of IEC 364 (Similar to NEC but for
Europe) which indicates Identification of Conductors by colour as indicated
in IEC446 which now has been replaced by IEC 60446 IDENTIFICATION OF
CONDUCTORS BY COLOURS OR NUMERALS and there is also DIN 40705 IDENTIFICATION
OF
You should always have the inspector call the engineer who did the initial
evaluation before he leaves so that you understand the exact position of
both. Generally there is justification for the acceptance of the product
that is not stated in your FUS. The engineer can help you resolve most of
To be proper the NCB should only issue test reports, the Declaration always
has to come from the manufacturer but can be based on your own testing or an
NCB. NCB's can still very good in that they can give you access to markets
in other countries besides just the European Union. Just a thought!!!
As usual Egon, you are correct we have abandoned are old 25 Amp tester and
created a new fixture to allow us to do the continuity tests at twice the
rating of the branch protection, 30,40 or 60 Amps. We tried many different
approaches and quoted many different standards but this issue is one that
CSA is fully accredited by OSHA as an NRTL and their mark is just as
acceptable as UL, ETL, WYLE or any of the U.S. based NRTL's. The fundamental
requirements for Listing described in the National Electrical Code NFPA 70,
do not specify UL only.
Article 90-7 Examination of Equipment for Safety
I agree that you should test and progressively increase the levels, because
the lower level tests pre-condition the samples and if you fail then you
have already obtained the data to apply the highest passing level. This is
even more important when you are doing more destructive tests like TOV.
I don't know if it has been said, but we have copperheads around where we
live and of course we don't want them in our yard and we generally be-head
the ones we find. All snakes have a very strong sense of smell which is part
from their nostrils but even more from their disgusting forked tongue
Does anyone know what the vibration requirements for this standard are?
(Sine, half Sine, triangle, frequency and amplitude, how many G's the
equipment must withstand) I also saw where it was equal to MIL-STD-1399, is
that true? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Test
The person who places the device on the market is ultimately responsible for
compliance with all directives. So you would be responsible to assure your
modifications do not affect the original compliance attributes.
